My guide mentioned that the order completion process would kick in when the vehicle is at the service center/delivery facility.

I thought to ask about that but I didn’t, the reason for the phone call in the first place was that I had added an option on my first call with the guide that we later found out would have pushed out my delivery slightly as it wasn’t originally in my configuration so I wasn’t expecting this call letting me know I could remove said option if I wanted the truck that was already completed.
What was the options? Did they mention what other options would delay, or gear that wouldn't ship?

Pardon my ignorance but what’s the benefit of getting the VIN so early? I know that when I called my insurance company they asked a VIN to help quote but other than that I’m curious if there is anything else it might help with.

I added the underbody armor (during my first call with my guide) due to FOMO but after I thought about it realized I didn’t need it. I think the only reason it was going to delay it was because it was already in the production schedule before the guide called so I think it’s probably wise to get your configuration as firm as possible ahead of time. He said color would change my delivery schedule as vehicles are batched.

There was no mention of anything else slowing the vehicle down. I also added crossbars and the wall charger during our call. He said they hope to ship the wall charger before the truck but no promises.

My guide also confirmed that the LE comes with tow hooks which I admittedly just wanted for aesthetics. (I thought it was part of the off-road package).

Also as there was discussion about VIN numbers.. here’s what I got from my insurance agent regarding what’s in their system as “body styles”

My understanding is the CIN is what activates the app to complete the process.

I’m a March/April and live about 20 minutes from the facility I’m Bloomington, I wonder how that will work for me. Have called CS a couple times but nothing actionable or insightful.

Mar-Apr delivery window with relatively late order compared to most on this thread (Sept'19), R1T, LA silver, Black Int, 20" wheels, Metro Detroit. No guide contact or phone calls.

Your guide can give you a dummy VIN to use for an insurance quote. No need to wait for the actual VIN if you want to shop around for quotes.

So for those asking test drive and whatnot, to my understanding test drives are based solely on location rather than proximity to delivery day. I test drove right after the aqua dulce event. They had canceled my drive there due to weather and instead brought one to me. They noted my spec and brought the closest truck they had to it(-black ATs). I spoke to my guide for the first time this week and the process was simply high how are you, is your configurator exactly as you desire. Once you say yes, it's locked in, and if you change anything you may face delays. I made a mistake and locked in not realizing I did not have a full-size spare, I'm bummed but was informed that it should be available in the gear shop eventually. My guide also noted that many of her colleagues were in similar positions, waiting for their spare wheels. I was not able to get a VIN at that time, but was told when the paperwork comes my way in the coming weeks it will be there. She also said the service center nearest to me is not up and running yet, so they will be delivering it on transport to a different service center and flat bedding it over to my home. She also said she lived close by and would likely accompany the driver for delivery, which I thought was a nice personal touch.

If you are waiting for a guide contact, think of it less as they described it would be, and more as a salesperson at a dealership. They get what you want, are a bit more personal, and then they get you the paperwork. The nice thing is avoiding the headache of them squeezing every penny out of you they can.

Looks like deliveries are definitely picking up. Saw a truck with 6 R1Ts on the 91w near Corona, CA. Probably heading to Irvine. First time I've seen an r1t in person, even though it was across the freeway from me.

Any March/April people in New England? I see very little activity in this area. I know Rivian was opening a location in Chelsea MA so maybe they are waiting for that to be operational before starting deliveries in this area?

That's been an evolving option. If I remember correctly. Originally there was an off road package that consisted of air compressor, under body armor and tow hooks.

Then they made the air compressor standard. And the offroad package was the armor and tow hooks.

During PriceGate they split those up again and made tow hooks its own thing (standard on LE and Adventure; 300 or something for Explore). Under Armour can be added on its own.

I plan to remove the armour from both my configs when the system is updated again as I only ever wanted the tow hooks and don't need the armour at all.
