Doesn’t look like a split liftgate like the R1S? Also, not sure how much I like those pointy, flared corners on the ends, but I guess we’ll really see how it looks and functions back there soon. Otherwise looks amazing!
A SUV of this size (i.e. very close to current generation BMW X3) doesn't need a split gate. The singular hatch isn't so big that people would have trouble finding enough clearance to open it, in real life situations (parking lots, street parking, etc.). I can see potential for a powered roll-down rear glass though, considering the rear is less rounded than R1S.

I would love it if that rear window rolls down like the 4Runners.

Oh, and where’s the shark fin? Is it the angle of the photo that’s hiding it?

Doubt it would have a split tailgate. That's more of a premium item.

The key feature I'm looking for: massive sales to raise my Rivian stock value from deep blood red, to a mere flamingo pink.
Seriously, I'm looking forward to the release. We're coming up on 100,000 miles on our Model 3. The R2 is a definite contender for a replacement.
My plan as well. I do love my Model 3....but Im growing tired of Tesla's "jelly bean" design for all their vehicles. Looking forward to "Rivian Only" household.

More to do with size and resulting ease-of-use. But, yes, split gate does cost more to make and that cost is passed to consumers. On the R2, I see potential for power roll-down rear glass. The rear is more square/less rounded than R1S.

That cyclops light can’t meet regulations, can it? Seems way too small.
Basically identical to the Lyriq's center high stop lamp. I'm a big fan of how large the R1's are though, especially when I have bikes stacked up on the back.

Agree. And I do love the power down rear window. Was great on my old 4runner and will be better on the R2 since there is no exhaust.

To my knowledge, there are no regulations on size. Only that there has to be one and be "steady-burning". At any rate, what will be revealed is a concept of varying degrees, but a concept nonetheless. Just as the journey R1 took from unveiling to production, many small changes can occur. The general design will remain intact.
This will be more than a concept because it was planned to be built next year before the factory delays. So design is locked down, equipment ordered and ready to go. They can do some more fine detailing with the additional year.

It looks like the glass will physically fit width wise inside the tailgate, but it may not roll down all the way due to the height (or lack of) the actual tailgate metal portion? it's hard to tell by that photo...

Agreed, maybe small things like the Shark Fin antenna is missing, but overall this may be an almost production ready vehicle we see at the reveal.. fingers crossed :)

The rear window will roll down, then maybe the back opens like a truck tailgate with the hinge on the bottom. This would work with what they've described about mounting bikes on the vehicle, loading pets, etc. We'll see.

A concept nonetheless. Unless they present it as production. Which they won't. Not going to argue further. We will know fact from fiction in just two days.

That's what I'm thinking. It may roll down at least 90% of the way.
Even that would be good, because with the proper support you could still stick them 12' 2x4's and pipes out the back.
