Nice Job Rivian!

Hopefully they can build on this communication: less touchy-feely / adventure / save-the-world fluff in communication about details is really appreciated. Business / transactional communication does not need to go through the marketing dept.

Just confirmed with CS that if you “make changes” (I contemplated moving to the R1S) then your timeline could be impacted.
Which is fair. If you go from the truck to the SUV I would expect a delay given where they are in the ramp. Same for going from black to white interior given the supply issues.

I am one of the people who called out the... less than clear... email from before. It is fair and just that I say thank you to Tony and whoever else was involved in this email for offering a very clear explanation of that issue. I think with this, they are being more generous than even I was asking for -- I suggested they allow just 1 manual config change rather than what looks like essentially unlimited changes. I also think they would have been fair to charge new accessory prices if we added them after March 1. So absolutely good on you Rivian for sending this clarification -- better communication!!! WOO!!! -- and also for doing the best thing for your earliest and most loyal customers.

Now... Give us all the details of the interior and exterior of the R1S like you did with the R1T many months ago, and it had better be a Limestone one so we can see that too! HAHAH

Yup, I'll get my Adventure R1S as I ordered, except now I'll be able to add the a la carte tow hooks that I really wanted for the new $300 price. Almost a win-win except for being forced into a 7-seater.
I do not think you need to add them, according to the new pricing structure they are included with the Adventure package and a $300 add for the Explore.

Many questions were posed about the wording of Rivian's e-mails that pre-orders prior to 03/01/2022 would re-instated at original pricing, however, wording appeared to indicate you may be stuck with the configuration of the vehicle as it was on that date or prior and not allowed to make any changes without altering your price.

I received an e-mail that clearly indicates that all pre-order holders will in fact be able to alter their configurations at Pre-03/01/2022 Pricing, thus you are not locked into the vehicle configuration as it was on 03/01/2022.

Personally, I'd figure out your configurations as quickly as possible, once they do eventually update everyone's accounts and allow you back in to the original configurations, just in case it changes again. But as of now, it appears that anyone with a reservation prior to 03/01/2022 will simply be able to ignore the recent pricing increases and continue to freely make changes to your configuration until your final order is made. All will be just as it was for us, until the order is complete. Only those placing orders after 03/01/2022 will be subject to the new pricing. For those of us with pre-orders prior to 03/01/2022, the price increase never happened, or only in an alternate universe to our own!!

COPY OF E-MAIL BELOW........

Hi XXX,

Thanks to everybody who reached out with questions about preorder pricing. We know a lot's happened over the last couple of weeks, so we thought a quick recap might be helpful.

Our developers are working hard to restore your pricing in our systems. We appreciate your patience as we get this set up.

Here’s what you can expect once everything is updated:
  • You will be able to reconfigure your preordered vehicle and maintain pre-March 1 pricing.
  • You can even swap between R1T and R1S and maintain pre-March 1 pricing.
  • Rivian accessories will be available at pre-March 1 pricing.
  • If you’d like to configure a post-March 1 option like Dual-Motor AWD, Standard battery pack or new accessory offerings, new pricing will apply (and we’ll be back in touch on how to select those options).
As a reminder, terms and details can be found in the Preorder Agreement. We’ll email you as soon as the configurator and your Rivian Account Page are updated. If you want more details in the meantime, reach out to us directly with any questions.

I hope you found this update helpful.

Until next time...

Great, that's good communication.
I would seriously consider the Dual motor if they knocked $6k off my price but I don't think that's happening. Anyways, I'll probably change my color at some point. I like Forest Green, but that Rivian Blue speaks to me.

That's the standard response CS has been telling everyone for quite a while now. Since they are batch building and have likely set a production schedule it makes sense. Making a change could move you back to a different build batch, which would be a "delay", but I would also imagine that it could theoretically move you up if there are open spots in a specific batch, due to people not going through with their reservations.

Just a thought/possibility.

If only they'd launch the delivery estimate feature so we can see for ourselves what the impact is. It will save their CS team from having to copy/paste a canned response to our questions on that daily if they just released it
