Picked up my CC 20” R2 at the Denver service center yesterday. First Rivian but have bought Audi’s, MB, Lexus, Land Rovers, etc. so that’s my perspective.
Leading up to the delivery had some good aspects. The delivery team didn’t schedule a date until they knew the car had left St Louis and was heading to Denver. I appreciated that as it didn’t increase the odds of rescheduling and delays.
I did think it was odd that with the car still in St. Louis, on July 15th I was informed to complete open tasks including finance, trade-in, insurance, etc. Got all of that completed. Side note, they accepted the insurance on my existing vehicle so no need to worry about insuring the R2 until a confirmed delivery which I did the night before.
On July 23rd I was told the vehicle was moving and should arrive on the 30th and we were good to schedule delivery. Scheduled for 10:00 on August 4th.
Took care of final items including down payment on Monday, August 3rd, even before confirmation that delivery was moving forward. A bit of back and forth on Mondaynfor updates and finally got the all clear at 4:30 PM on the 3rd. I have to say this was a bit odd that it was so late. I did ask to reschedule delivery to 12:00 due to an appointment in the morning that came up.
Delivery day. Obviously as an early purchaser I was really looking forward to getting in the car. I would rate the overall delivery as meh. The car wasn’t ready for delivery. After completing the final paper work, I was told the car still needed to be cleaned and tossed on a charger.
Finally around 12:45 I was handed the key cards and walked out to the car. The lack of enthusiasm from the delivery person (she never did introduce herself by name) was anticlimactic to say the least. As we got in the car I asked about the key fobs and at that point was told they didn’t have them and they would have to be shipped to me.
We didn’t spend long inside the car or outside of it going over things. Basically if I didn’t ask questions, it wasn’t covered. I was shown the welcome screen and told I could take the tour of the car later and reach back out with any questions.
I want to say that if I had more questions they would have been addressed and we would have spent more time in the car. However, the over all feeling was here’s your car and we will see you later.
Now, I’m sure there are delivery team members who are as excited to get people in a Rivian as we are to get behind the wheel. This just wasn’t one of those situations. And the lack of key fobs and explaining that situation until I brought it up was odd. But, it was quick and none of the hours long process you can get with a traditional dealership. I just wish when it is a first time Rivian owner they spent a bit more time covering some of the UI basics.
One interesting side note. I was told on the 23rd that the car should arrive on the 30th. First thing I did when I got home was hook up an external drive for Gear Guard. Drive formatted and Instarted looking at the different tabs. Went to Incidents. Guess what was there? Two videos. The first one was from July 23rd of the car being pulled into the Denver service center parking lot and parked. I was told on the 23rd that the car should arrive on the 30th when in fact it was already at the service center at the time of that communication. Does it matter? Absolutely not, but I did think it was interesting and have to wonder why the communication didn’t match the facts.
Heading 130 miles up to the cabin today so I’ll get some good drive time. This drive will be the most common drive in the car other than local puttering around. Last comment, the R2 has some serious steeeinf wheel shimmy in UHF as others have mentioned before.

Unfortunately, there is a sizable group here with bad attitudes/terrible manners...maybe a cross-section of the "Luxury vehicle" crowd/segment?
