I carried this pump in my Model Y and when I got the R1S I moved it. It saved me once in the Y. When I tried to use it in the R1S it failed. It would pump for maybe a minute, gaining perhaps 1 lb of pressure, then it would quit. I am assuming that the volume and pressure in the huge Rivian tires is the problem.

Does anyone know of a pump like this that works with a Rivian?

I have a Ryobi 18V compressor (I think it's the predecessor to this one) that use to top off my 20" AT's because it's easier than using the onboard compressor when I'm at home. It worked, but I only had to go from 42 to 48. I bought small ones like you showed for our Subaru and Highlander (which my girls have at college) but haven't had to use them yet.

Which wheel/tire combo, and how large of a compressor do you want?

I use this one when I'm hauling my trailer; those tires get filled to 100PSI, but it may be overkill for you..

1. Did you try it on another vehicle recently and see if it has the same problem? There are similar customer 1 star reports on Amazon saying the battery life is bad.

2. Rivian needs a higher pressure than typical cars. The Amazon page says it has four automatic modes plus a manual mode. Did you try it in the manual mode? The automatic mode may be expecting a certain inflation rate of change or some other assumptions. Rivian's bigger tire will be slower to inflate.

I have the built in inflator in my R1S. I assume you do not?

I bought three Kobalt dual power (120VAC/12VDC) inflators. One to carry in my ICE Truck, and two for my two daughters about 5 years ago. All three are running strong to this day.

I had a low pressure warning on one tire a while back and tried the Rivian portable compressor... It was not... pleasant. And the cats were not happy. Good tips on this board! Going to invest in a better compressor to keep on board.

Follow up question: On board air compressor. I do not have one. Blank panel is there. Does anyone know if Is there a hook-up for the electric behind that panel (part of a wiring harness)? Something I might be able to get installed after-market?

Toy ones are worthless. Buy a viair or some real off road compressor

No different than any other tire other than maybe higher pressures and a larger tire which will take longer to inflate. The battery on your portable unit just wore out/died.

Would love the answer to this question too! Would be great to install an ARB or something similar!

Have the same Kobalt for close to 10 years. Great little compressor, aside from some sharp corners and edges around the storage compartments for hose and power cord.

You can't go wrong with the Milwaukee M18 Cordless Portable Inflator. It's not cheap but it's strong and fast.

Unless one owns Milwaukee tools already and have a collection of batteries, not a very good value. Plus, the R1 has outlets. For $199, I’d be looking at ARB or similar that are purpose built for overlanders and can accept quick disconnects.

Extremely unlikely, no. I can take my motorcycle pump and use it on the Rivian, it just takes longer. The battery is probably dead.

Your current one probably just crapped out. I have used this one on the last 4 EVs I've had. Has no trouble pumping my R1S tires up to 48psi.
