That's super odd...wife has a new Y, I think it's a 22' model (maybe very late 21), but only makes that spaceship noise in reverse.
Pretty sure it makes it both ways, may be louder in reverse

2022 MYP here, and Tesla’s ”Jetson’s spaceship” pedestrian warning sound only happens in reverse.

Again, are you sure no noise? It may not be the same noise. But it’s likely a noise. If not, it’s coming.

The forward noise is different tone than reverse, but should still be there and be just as loud. The forward noise sounds like gravelly/grinding gears.

Sounds like Tesla is looking at a fine in the near future.

My Model Y makes noise in both forward and reverse, but they’re 2 different noises. While the reverse noise sounds like a spaceship, the forward noise is much fainter and sounds more like a vacuum cleaner. I just found out this noise about 2 weeks ago while I was in the car the garage and rolled in with the window open. The reverse noise is much more audible.

My 2020 Model Y which was an early build has the sound in neither forward or reverse. Think they forgot to either add the speaker or connect it.
Same here. I don’t think they were adding the speaker at the beginning of Y production. I’ve always thought that some people might see the lack of a speaker as a “feature” when I go to sell lol ?

If you want to be able to silence the pedestrian warning I highly recommend the BMW i3. :0)

There's a lot of confused Model Y owners in this thread. If you make the "spaceship noise" in reverse, you make the forward noise too, it's just different. It's a white noise that is difficult to hear from the drivers seat with the windows up, but is absolutely there. Listen by the front right tire with the vehicle in drive, you'll hear it.

The R1T is a similar sound in both D and R, but seems notably louder based on my test drive. Not sure if the Model Y is quieter or just carefully tuned to seem quieter. They may be getting away with something.

Has anyone heard an ID.4 and R1T? I'm curious how it compares. My ID.4 has been dubbed the spaceship because of how loud it is.

We have both now so maybe we can figure out how to rig up a way to actually measure it... ?

I almost think this merits a quick YouTube video with a decibel meter. ?

Or, if you have two drivers, you can do a direct comparison. And then, see what it sounds like when they're both singing in harmony!

In all seriousness, just your subjective opinion on relative volume would more than suffice.

OH, and congrats on the newer of the two vehicles! Hope you're enjoying it.

Based on my 1st mile drive, the R1T is a bit louder than my 2019 Kia Niro EV. The 2020+ Niro's are apparently much louder...at least that's my assumption from the amount of digital ink devoted to how to turn them down or off...not a good idea in terms of liability, but if you're interested in the discussion: https://www.insideevsforum.com/comm...-virtual-engine-sound-system-on-2020-us.9591/ Interesting that there is such apparent variability in something mandated.
