I don't know but I would speculate the following variables based on what folks here have deduced:
The "Lauch Edition" will not be the much-touted $45K base model, but a more expensive model with more upscale trim and technology, but not the Lidar.
No one knows when the $45K base model will be released, but likely before the Lidar Version, which is speculated to come out no earlier than 2027.
Prices are expected to be revealed on March 12, and the on-line configuration page some weeks later, perhaps in May, but hopefully before June 20, to make "spring" self-imposed deadline.
Not everyone that made a reservation will follow through, much will depend on prices, models available, the state of the economy, etc.
Don't be surprised if, once the Lidar equipped version comes out, there is a surge of low mileage used non-Lidar R2s suddenly available on the used market at discount prices.
If you buy early, you are going to pay more for fewer features and buggy, unrefined first editions. If you wait, you may be able to snag the cheaper base model or find a really good deal on a slightly used R2. If you wait for the Lidar equipped model, you will likely get a vehicle with more resale value than the non-Lidar model.
