Current owners -- advice needed!

Just got my order invitation today (right on time....was in the August/Sept invitation window). Hoping to order later this month when coastal cloud is released. I'm pleased to see that many of the early headaches with R1 seem to be improved with R2, but still looking for some advice re what to pay close attention to during delivery. Specifically, I'm allergic to rattles. Previous BMW was carved from granite and tight as skinny jeans....never a rattle or squeak was heard. Current Tesla MY is a pill box that has made me semi-mental since the day I drove it off the lot (I tried having SC fix but they were mostly worthless).

Based on R1 and R2 experience, are there obvious rattle-y or squeaky places to pay attention to during delivery? Any other heads-ups? I saw the other recent R2 thread that included a long checklist.....not really interested in diving that deep, to be honest. Just want to hit the things that are most likely problematic, particularly because I'm an hour+ away from my closest SC. Thanks in advance....

I can't speak for R2 as I don't own one, nor do I have one reserved......

With my R1T, things overall have been great! There's one rattle roughly behind the driver's dash that is bothersome & I've had mobile service attempt to fix twice. The problem with it is that it is only audible when it's warm out (like, 90+ degrees), and when hitting bad road surfaces. Not present at all the rest of the year, and rarely if ever on smooth roads. Whenever mobile service tried to diagnose it for a fix, it wasn't warm enough out for it to appear & I was unable to get a later, warmer time with them. So it's become one of those things that I live with (because the rest of the vehicle is amazing).

From various forum and reddit posts I've read, things seem to be much better in terms of interior fit for noise/rattle causing issues.

I've done a few demo rides so far. Didn't hear any rattles during my drives.

I hate rattles too. Typically with all vehicles, the rattle develops over time as the interior assembly gets shaken and go through thermal cycles where things expand and shrinks.

On our R1S, there is a small rattle at a particular speed (must have to do with the vibration at this speed and frequency) around 35 mph. Nothing serious, just noticeable when it happens. Since R1 build is a body-on-frame, it is more likely to have rattles than R2, which is unitized body construction.

As a side note, my 2018 Model 3 has zero rattle so you might have been unlucky in your MY.

You're not going to do anything about rattles at pickup. Just get it and drive it for a while, then if there's an annoying rattle schedule service at a time convenient to you. Don't worry, they're not going to refuse to fix it.

My R1T doesn't have any rattles, and the two R2 that I drove were noticeably quieter and also didn't have any rattles.

So far my R2 is noticeably more solid than my R1T or R1S. I think it's probably much better designed in terms of reducing points of failure during assembly.

Like any other vehicle you take delivery of inspection of the interior and exterior, make sure your apps work and understand how to operate it properly. Anything you find like a rattle or a driving related matter service will resolve but you most likely won't find that during delivery.

I'm def a rattle-bothered guy and I must say my R1S has not been a bother. I truly appreciate my Rivian. Multiple trips from the West Coast to the Rocky Mountains on some crazy windy highways - no issues. I hope your Rivian adventure is equally satisfying

I will have had my Gen 2 R1T Quad for exactly one year on Friday, 8/14/2026.

Current mileage is just 3,045.

Consider yourself lucky. My R1S is VERY rattly. Luckily I'm switching it for an R2 shortly

If I don't want rattles, I would avoid a few years of any new model. Except maybe a Lexus. New models will have problems.

My Gen2 R1T has never rattled or squeaked. Going on 2 years of ownership and almost 16k miles. Blissfully quiet interior.

FWIW - I did test drive an R2 a few weeks back, and it was equally as quiet inside.
