Sorry, i'm not familiar with Discord so I'm going to try to troubleshoot here.

Gerry helped install the comma in my 2023 R1s yesterday and it didn't go thru successfully. We got all kind of errors after installed the harness which is expected. After hard reboot, the errors didn't go away and the car prevent us from doing another hard reboot. We have to go the RIDE menu to perfrom the hard reboot from there. That went successful. The errors, went away but we can't put the car in any driving gear. We ended up have to put the car to sleep mode and that fixed the gear problems, but the errors came back.
The only way to get rid of the errors is to remove the comma harness and do a hard reboot. At this time, it was late in the day and I have to drive back home. The only thing Gerry and I think we did wrong was the car did not go to sleep mode when we first install the harness. Any other issues yall might think of?
I'm still within the 30 days period of Comma retuning and having second thought about it.

Thanks

Are you using Lukas' add-on harness? I know one other user here who had the same problem when using that harness, but it worked without it. For reference, I am using the stock Comma.ai harness and I know for a fact that my truck WAS NOT sleeping when I installed it, nor did I do any restarts afterward and it works great.

I'm using the comma Harness and not Lukas. I bought two harnesses from them actually thinking that i will install on both of my Rivians and use one comma unit. Gerry looked at the harness and didn't see any issues with it. We have to do reboot because all kind of errors popped up. It even locked us out of doing another hard reboot !!! neither one of us have tried doing hard reboot from RIDE menu before, so we learned something new.

Another weird thing was the way it was giving us errors - like constant recurring error chimes like the errors were popping off and then back on.

The reason I think it might be a bad harness is because the alerts stopped sounding as soon as I unplugged the car-side AXM cable from the harness. Total silence. Plugged it back in and the errors started coming back.

From my experience, this is not normal behavior. Never seen that happen before.

According to Jared's reply, I guess it probably is the harness since he didn't put his car to sleep either.

I have Comma installed with the standard harness. I didn’t have an issue after installing it and I definitely did not put the truck to sleep. About a week after install I was messing around with a lot of the different toggles in the menu setting. After doing that, I started getting error messages and had to do a hard reset. I still received some error messages. I installed a new version of Sunny pilot and kept all of the toggles on the default and that resolved the error messages. It doesn’t sound like your issue is related, but just FYI.

Yes, I wished it was simple of hard reset will fix it. The errors made the rivian undrivable unless the harness is removed

If you want to try the other harness in your R1T at some point, let me know.

I read this thread thinking I'd be prepared, put the car in sleep mode, and go about an install. How the heck does one "put the car in sleep mode?" I see no menu option for it. Just mentions of "walk away for 30 minutes" when I google it. No lights are going off anyway while I have the door open. The AXM box feels very powered- it's hot as hell (can't hold my hand on it very long).

Open the passenger door and walk away for 30+ min. Don't have any key within range or turn off/take the battery out. Don't touch any buttons or open/close any doors, or turn on the cabin lights.

And just to add - once the vehicle is in sleep mode, don't sit in the driver's seat or put any objects or weight on it because it will automatically wake from sleep mode if it detects a "driver" in the vehicle (or a key fob, bluetooth on a phone key, etc.).

My car was definitely not in sleep mode when I installed it. No issues here. Only error codes was when I used an experimental fork. Main openpilot and stable fork of sunnypilot have been error free.

Just making sure no difference in 2023 r1s from 2022 r1t. I have had the T installed for about 3 months. The connector on 2023 doesnt have the pink surround and for life of me I cant get the comma connector in. I got the bottom to go all the way in but could not get the top to go all way. Vehicle gave errors. Removed harness and now cant get to go in at all. Probably just need to sleep it off I guess lol.

There's no difference in the connector, just a lot more cables in your way. 100% get some rest tonight and approach it fresh in the morning. The 2022 is definitely a much easier install.

You are the man. Amazing what a little sleep, getting rid of frustration, and a fresh hand can do. Got it in on first try this morning. Everything working great, so both R1's are good to go.
