Coastal Cloud Interior Not Available with R2 Launch Edition

I'm just reading from the press release which I linked. Not sure how one would interpret that differently.

You're just reading too much into it because Rivian didn't communicate this well. Same thing is happening now with Coastal Cloud interior not being available until late 2026. We're having to get this info from third parties even though it's in many of the pictures/photos/videos.

Glad I went with OC on my R1. I could never buy a boring black interior at this point. We'll wait for the Gen 3 to come out with lidar/chip improvements before making a decision. Hopefully they offer a lighter interior and leasing options to sell more.

People had this same conversation when the R1 LEs were released. Everyone thought they were only going to be Launch Green….

Funny you write that. I remember having an opportunity at ordering a Launch Edition but didn’t because I indeed thought Launch Green was the only option. Once I saw Launch Green in person I regretted passing on that opportunity. I love the color after seeing it in person.

Another funny thing - when I traded in for my Gen 2 Quad R1T last year I planned to get Launch Green - but it only came with the dark interior.

My wife was going to trade her Gen 1 R1S Quad for the R2 Launch Edition in Launch Green but she’ll only get a light interior so we’re not getting Launch Green yet again.

Just not meant to be for us.

To me that reads LE customers get one more paint color in addition to normal colors.

They should offer the ability to order a LE R2 with a white coastal interior and then just have the coastal customers wait a bit longer to get their cars delivered. This way they can run (produce) all the black interior cars first; then switch to the white interiors on the back end.

In particular for those customers that have already invested heavily in this company by currently owning an R1. Those R1 owners with R2 reservations should not get shafted out of being able to get a LE with a white interior and launch green combo. Or any other exterior/interior combination for that matter, like a Catalina Cove/White or a Borealis/White...as examples.

Worst case scenario...make the white interior a paid upgrade. But don't shut R1 owners with R2 reservations out of getting the launch benefits (free lifetime autonomy +, tow package, fob and launch green color) because of this interior color issue. I know for many not getting the white is a deal breaker.

What percentage of people get the white, seems like a (vocal) minority but a minority none the less. Your proposal makes sense and hopefully they will do it. iX3 and EX60 have three color choices so options for you.

I love the idea of the white interior, but living in the land of red clay with 2 boys under 6, the reality of a white interior is a very different prospect. I do wish there was something other than black, even if it was just a different stain for the wood to lighten things up but regardless I'll be rolling with the dark interior.

I don't have stats, nor am I running percentages on how many are actually pounding the table for a white interior. But I'm pretty darn sure it's a much larger percentage than you might think. Nonetheless, as someone who has invested heavily in this company with a R1S Quad, and placed my R2 reservation early on, we shouldn't get freezed-out no matter what the minority/majority percentage is. That's all. I have no interest in BMW, Volvo or Tesla options.

Where does Rivian say that Coastal Cloud WILL NOT be available on Launch Edition?

The press release says it's optional, just like the non-silver exterior colors.
There *will* be an extra cost for these options.

Now, the press-release is still poorly worded and can therefore be read in many different ways (did they re-hire Tony?), but what I read is that there are standard features (silver exterior, black interior) included in the base price AND there are other optional features (other exterior colors, other interior, tow package, etc.) that are available at extra cost. Just like any other vehicle model/brand.

Whether you have a Rivian or placed an order early doesn’t make you able to override their decision or business logic. Sounded quite entitled which I am sure was not the intent.
You can get the white interior with a performance, just not straightaway.

If in fact the LE does come with all the color options and the Coastal Cloud interior option then the press release is indeed very badly worded. I'd agree that people seem to be getting a bit worked up about it, but maybe that's just because I'm unlikely to get the opportunity for an LE or anything else in 2026, given my Jan 2025 reservation and lack of current Rivian ownership.

In any event, even if I'm correct about the initial limited options, we know that Performance will almost certainly have all the options available before Premium arrives late 2026 with most of the same color options.

Kyle from Out of Spec also said in his recent R2 full tour video, LE will not have Coastal Cloud option. He too is disappointed as he is getting a LE, but wanted the light interior.
