L2 erroring out began after the last software update- never an issue before
yeah "unplug, try again" could be several things right now.

Not sure how widespread this is but for me, on a Tesla universal charger at home, the last SW update introduced a bug where if I have my car set to a schedule it gives me the red light and message on the dash to "try again". It would always show red for a sec before, but ultimately turn blue (meaning charge scheduled). Now, it just stays red with that message.

If I unplug and plug back in, it's OK, light goes blue the second time around. If I turn off the schedule, none of this happens and it charges right away (green). But also, if I just ignore the error, the car will charge at the schedule hour (despite showing a red light and "try again" message the whole time).

I blame all this on a Rivian SW update, not an impending hardware failure or issues with the charger itself. The charger has been reliably great for 18 mos and two generations of Rivian's previously.

Could we please confine this discussion to the OP's problem, and refrain from mentioning everybody else's clearly unrelated problems? Especially when those unrelated problems are discussed in other threads? All of this topic creep makes the forum far less helpful than it could be.

And to be clear, the OP's problem has NOTHING TO DO with the latest software update, because the OP states that this behavior has been seen for several months. Likewise it has nothing to do with scheduled charging, or wall chargers, or DCFC.

Try setting the UWC to compatability mode.

I'm having the same issue with a Tesla Charger at home. The charger makes many clicking sound and then the Rivian reports the charging error. I'll try the reset or hard reset an report back. This started to happen (I've been using this charger for almost 2years now without any issue) after the rain we got in California. I wonder if humidity has anything to do with that.

Edit: A friend of mine gave me his NACS to J1772 adapter and it worked. So, nothing wrong with the car or the charger, just a faulty adapter.

I have two Tesla version 4 chargers at home. I have two 26 Rivians. Both started having issues about a month ago, where I would have to plug in multiple times. I have two new Tesla portable chargers.
I am on a vacation in Blueridge GA. Everytime I tried to supercharge, I had to plug in multiple times. One supercharger would not charge. They all were V4 stations where Rivian sent me.
Now. I can not get this R1S to charge at all on the Tesla portable charger at the rental house.

It feels like a software issue with Rivian, or maybe Tesla is screwing with us.

I have a Tesla universal and have been having the issue ever since they brought out the new scheduling for ToU. I disabled my schedule and it has resolved it for the most part.

I just tried that as well. I have done several resets. I think when the did that update, even though I did not go to that program, that is when my troubles began.
It is time to sell the Rivians and go back to Tesla. I just did not have theses issues driving Teslas for 10 years.

I charge daily at work using a networked Tesla Wall Connector that shares power with a leader and three followers. Yes there is a moment of delay but in a few seconds the message goes away and charges every single time.

Have recently charged several times at different Superchargers and all worked perfectly.

My old (from 2011) Leviton recently gave up and I will be replacing it with a Rivian home unit soon.

I did another hard reset to no avail. Then I tried a software reset. It is charging now. I will let it charge for the next three days and get as far as I can toward home.
I strongly feel, since it has affected both of my 26 Rivians using all types of Tesla chargers, that there is a software issue.

I had this same issue today when I returned home from the airport after my gen 2 sat in single digit weather for 4 days. 90 mile drive home only had the battery up to an indicated 39 degrees. I was down to 25 percent, so I figured I'd plug in right away when I got home. Same unplug and retry again error.

Did two hard resets, tried the Rivian portable charger, called support. They asked me to try a L3 to see if it would take any charge... I routed to the Tesla station 10 minutes away to start preconditioning... It had no problem fast charging.

I got home and immediately plugged in my L2 and it started up no problem.

Called support back and the same guy I spoke to earlier said he asked around and it was likely the battery was too cold, and I should manually initiate preconditioning if it happens again. Obviously the truck should do that automatically if it's plugged in and too cold but...

Anyway, heads up if anyone else has issues during this latest deep freeze.

Good to know. It is silly that the truck will not precondition for L2 charging if it's needed.

I turned compatibility mode on my UWC and the errors have gone away. I haven't otherwise experimented with the charge schedule in the truck, but I do have it start at 1am.

I got hit with this error this morning when I returned from errands. I started with the usual suspects and restarted the NEMA circuit. That did not clear it. Did a hard reboot (LEFT wheel button + Hazard button) and that cleared it.

It was also 14 degrees outside while running my errands, and since I was doing L2 charging in the garage, I did not do any pre-conditioning of the battery. I wonder if the temps had something to do with it?

Very similar experience here. 20° tonight after a successful charging at a Tesla universal destination charger at 10.8kw speed for 2 hours, I arrived at home one hour later and plunged in and got this error. Soft reboot didn’t work but a hard reboot (left+hazard) cleared the problem.

Having same issue. Evidently this is a software issue related to cold weather AC charging, as a result of the most recent OTA software update. DC charging is not an issue.

Support told me they have gotten a bunch of calls and are working on an emergency update to correct this.

As luck would have it, I'm sitting in my truck right now warming the battery so I can charge. Battery was at an indicated 29 degrees and got the error plugging in.

Really annoying that getting out and closing the door causes everything to stop, even if the seatbelt is left buckled and the fob is in the car...
