  1. Mercedes vs Tesla Supercharging (which should I pick?)

Pretty much this. Even being a cheap bastard who typically eschews things like toll roads, I don't really look at the price of DCFC. I like being able to find something I like to eat and use the bathroom. This is especially important to check for holidays and off-hours. Some spots are at a...
  2. New to Rivian and wondering how current owners find the repair experience?

Service seems to be going downhill. I've been in for 5 appointments, though one was just to replace the windshield after it cracked in my driveway for no reason. They were pretty interested in getting everything right the first couple times, but on my 3rd visit they started blowing off my...
  3. Stupid previous owner = $$$ L2 installation

Okay, this is what they look like when they fail: Check the terminals at your breaker as well. Once I replaced the receptacle, the breaker started to trip due to heat, and I found one of the terminals had loosened. I replaced the 14-50 with a Tesla UWC which has been fine for over 2 years.
  4. Stupid previous owner = $$$ L2 installation

When charging at 32A you're only down 20% from 40A, but that amperage drop cuts the amount of heat at the receptacle by 36%. That decrease in heat really helps extend the life of a receptacle. I charged my Model S at 40A on a 14-50 with a gen1 Tesla UMC, and I melted my receptacle (on 6awg...
  5. Baking Cookies in a Rivian

Congratulations on your gold medal in the suffering Olympics.
  6. New Fiat Multiplina Concept.

Too bad about the top speed, this looks like a lot of fun otherwise. Just makes it unusable for highways. This is coming from someone whose motorcycle also topped out around 55 while stock. That said, the Fiat 500e was apparently not fun to drive. They do have the style at least.
  7. Early adopters who gave up on Rivian, RJ hopes you give Rivian another try

It took them 8 weeks to get me back in after they broke my auto wipers when replacing my windshield back in February. Not a safety or drivability issue for sure, but they didn't seem all that concerned about righting their wrong either. The Uber credits they issued also expired the day before...
  8. Early adopters who gave up on Rivian, RJ hopes you give Rivian another try

Maybe if they offer an R2T. Also, slow service and a degrade to Uber credits is lousy. It'd be livable if it didn't need to go in so frequently. My jounce lines need to be fixed for a 3rd time, and the heater malfunctions on every drive below freezing, but I am just too sick of taking the...
  9. RJ on high $ collision repairs: "should never happen"

My truck went to the body shop a little over a year ago to repair the rear quarter. Needed the giant panel to do it. Rivian shipped three of them in flimsy cardboard and styrofoam. The first two panels were so badly creased that they were unusable. The 3rd finally went into service. The...
  10. Looking for Ceramic Coating Install Recommendations - Raleigh NC

I guess agree to disagree. I applied "fake ceramic" Griots last November and it's still hydrophobic. My truck lives outside. Two coats of CQuartz UK only lasted a little more than a year on my garaged Model S. The lifespan of the spray may end up being shorter than the liquid, but the...
  11. Looking for Ceramic Coating Install Recommendations - Raleigh NC

You don't even need to use a top tier product. The spray ceramic / graphene coatings last a long time and are far easier and faster to apply than even the easier liquids like CQuartz. I've had excellent results with both Hybrid Solutions ceramic spray and Griots. If you're going to spend any...
  12. R3X cargo area extension patent

I think they buried the lede here. You'll actually be able to remove the doors of the R3X like a Wrangler or Bronco. I am sure they are making this change, maybe as an OTA update for the R1S too since you said it might not exclusively be for the R3X...
  13. Driving like a boat - air suspension at fault?

It could be air, but it could also be hydraulic. The R1 uses hydraulic roll control, and if it's not properly pressurized, it can't create the roll resistance needed to keep the truck flat. This hydraulic pressure also affects damping. Does the suspension oscillate a lot over bumps? Try it...
  14. RiT - lease return questions

I'm not sure what was being leased back in November, but there were all kinds in June. They had an additional discount for max pack trucks, probably because they hadn't sold. The max pack arrived in October 2023 and many felt it wasn't worth the price increase. I was one of those people...
  15. RiT - lease return questions

Leases started November 2023. My 3 year lease started the end of June 2024. As it stands, the residual will be higher than the street price. I wasn't planning to buy anyway though. EV leases in general will be coming out in force late this year. Depending on what happens with gas prices...
  16. As you might have guessed.... higher gas prices has increased interest in EVs [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

The single best argument for an EV is just to get someone to drive one. Talk about all the charging and environmental stuff afterwards. Virtually everyone is blown away and then the justifications start about how they can put up with charging on longer trips and how they could set up charging...
  17. In the world of Luce, The Rivian R3X could shine

Should be able to turn off any optional sounds that you don't want. I agree that the piped-out sounds are kind of silly. That said, I don't think there's a person here who wouldn't want the Jetsons car sound piped to pedestrians as they drive by.
  18. In the world of Luce, The Rivian R3X could shine

They've been mandatory for pedestrian warning for over half a decade. I expect any interior fake noise to be user defeatable. AFAIK it can be disabled on all the EVs that have this, but many people think it improves the experience. No such thing as fake fun.
  19. In the world of Luce, The Rivian R3X could shine

Plot twist: they trained the LLM on his Rivian posts.
  20. In the world of Luce, The Rivian R3X could shine

I like that Gulf, an oil company, sponsored the R3X, and that they have chosen to run both Michelin and Pirelli tires, at least according to the decals on the front. As for the Luce, I think it's getting panned because it's just so hideous. There's virtually nothing to like about it except...
