You latest one (8/4), I had the same issue with the seal flopping down on the drivers side. Instead of taking it to the service center for repair (and probably couple hundred dollars, I grabbed a bottle of Gorilla Glue (the clear kind), put some on it and pushed it back in. Shut the door and waited a few hours.......voila.....fixed it!
I told them I would have just glued it if it wasn't still under warranty and since it was in for something else anyway I let them do it.

As for the halfshaft washers clicking, that seems to go hand in hand with the Bosch motors on the early builds; I just live with the clicks at this point. I don't see the tanneau cover on the list; if you have one, this is a common failure point too. Mine was replaced under warranty at 59K mi.
I still have the OG powered tonneau, i cycle it multiple times per week without an issue, honestly hoping it goes out sometime before the warranty ends to avoid that $3000 bill.

Keep a a close watch on the wet front floorboards. The Gen 1's have been known to get a plugged AC condensate line and they will then start condensing inside the cabin. I just had mine in for the second repair on that two weeks ago. The fix is about 11.5 hours of labor as they need to remove the dash and replace the insulation on the firewall, as well as the front carpets. Apparently on the first fix, the SC managed to leave a 10mm bolt in the drain area and that's what caused the second issue. Now I need to ask them about the scratched window tint as a result of that second repair.
That is what I assumed it was as it has never had the AC drain fix. Unfortunately they couldn't replicate it and it hasn't recurred so I'm guessing it was plugged transiently and eventually cleared itself. Hopefully it'll recur next spring and get it fixed if that is indeed the issue.

Consensus seems to be that first gen R1 is a ticking time bomb, and in my personal experience I’ve noticed the more things need service the more service it needs. There are a lot of parts, clips, fasteners, etc that they changed over the first couple years so when you go in to have work done they break some clips and replace them with new ones that don’t quite fit anymore and rattle now, or they put a compatible gen 2 part in but the firmware on that part doesn’t work with gen 1 unless they do some kind of manual one-off override, or they lose the spring clips that hold the aero covers on in the middle but no one makes that clip anymore and so on and so on.

Gen 1 has an incredible number of features for the price but I would not say it was an incredible value - mine has definitely felt like a prototype built in a shed. Using top of the line parts off the shelf, but still lacking decades of institutional knowledge on packaging, reliability and serviceability.

It’s been a fun ride but I would absolutely not own a gen 1 out of warranty.

Though fwiw despite endless service visits it has never fully stranded me.
Quite a difference between a 2022 Quad a 2024 Dual.

But..... the suspension is still going to be a major cost to maintain.

Just my opinion, but those early 2022's definitely seem more "problematic". Mine was manufactured February 2023 and has only needed one thing on that list (the 12V batteries replaced).

But on the flipside, you probably have things that were later removed (12V in frunk, 12V under dash, assuming you have both of those? Also you're more likely to have the wiring harness for the tonneau cover, even if you don't have the cover itself at this time)

Not trying to dismiss your issues at all, seems like the old saying about a "Monday vehicle" or a "Friday vehicle". Those are fantastic notes, organized and easy to read. I'd look into the extended warranty (plenty of threads on here about those). Good luck!

I agree with you OP. I love the car ... but I've had my June 2023 build a year and a half and had the following fixes:
1.) center console USB didn't work
2.) half-shafts replaced
3.) The car wouldn't pre-condition the battery - this required a replacement of the High Voltage Battery pack (there is a timer or sensor or something in the HV battery)
4.) door trim coming off.
5.) Back tailgate trim loose.
6.) 12V battery replaced.

And .... I've got another appointment in like a week to replace the half-shafts... again

I'd feel better if there was a permanent half-shaft fix, but I'm not holding my breath. Maybe my new tires will help (they are quite a bit lighter than the old ones).

Its very hard to generalize this issue because it involves individual finance and expectations.

Personally, the way I see any EV is in two distinct decision points:
1) Overall vehicle warranty (typically 4yrs/50K miles)
2) Battery warranty (typically 8yrs/100K~150K miles)

I make my decision to keep or get rid of EV based on general population of make/model feedback on the forums, internet reviews, people I've talked to, in addition to personal experience of own vehicle.

My decision on our gen 1 quad R1S, with 3yrs and 44K miles is I will replace it before the vehicle warranty expires or very near it. To be clear, our vehicle has been trouble free and has been reliable without any issue. The only problem is that I don't want to deal with potential air suspension failure, which is common to all vehicles with such, between 50K~100K miles, and hate the wind noise at above 60 mph.

Not at all interested in extended warranty on any EV as the technology changes so quickly in the vehicle, I rather have something more current.

Since our R1S is my wife's daily driver so she'll decide what vehicle to replace it with but it will be another EV from candidate list I'll put together with her input.

We have a 2022 LE R1T that we picked up at the factory at the end of 2022. We will be trading it in for our R2 in a few weeks for a couple of reasons:

1. We've had several service center visits. In fact, we made our first SC appt. the day we got back from the factory. At that time our nearest SC was in Richmond, VA, 90 minutes away. Several underbody screws were over torqued and the heads snapped off on the drive home. Quick fix, but it required a day of us hanging out in Richmond while the SC fixed it.

2. We've had several paint issues, including an issue that was present at delivery. Door adjustment, etc. These are minor, but have all be a bit of a pain.

3. We've had several fluid leaks, and we just had a drive unit replaced.

4. We just had both 12v batteries replaced as well.

5. More rattles than we can count.

We love the truck, but we've got a little over 12mo left on the warranty and we don't want to deal with repairs or an expensive extended warranty.

Our plan is to enjoy the new R2 and likely come back in a year or two and buy a Gen 2 R1T. The early VIN R1T is just a bit of a ticking time bomb.

For the record, the vehicle drives fantastic. We've never been stranded. Nothing has ever failed while driving or underway. We've roadtripped a few times.

Came here to say this. It’s shocking that they didn’t replace the AC for you, it’s a known issue (unless the water was somewhere else - mine was starting just under or behind the accelerator pedal). I had mine replaced in the spring for wet carpet and mold.

Mathme, would you please let us know how it goes with the scratched tint? They scratched mine (rather small scratch) when they fixed/replaced the AC as well.

26K on my 25 R1T Gen 2. Only been to the SC for two minor recalls. Hoping my Gen 2 won't have a lot of these issues.

My local SC dented the passenger A pillar speaker cover when they removed and replaced the dash when they replaced the HVAC due to the leak. They said they would replace the carpet but didn’t. They also didn’t note replacing the firewall insulation or cabin air filter. I’m bringing my R1T back in a couple weeks to have them replace the speaker cover, look at potential condensation issues with the AXM - both screens have gone completely black three times while driving - and my proximity sensors misfire periodically. I’m also asking them to look at the class 1 leak (moisture present) in my rack and pinion.

I suspect that whomever owned that R1T prior to you really beat the crud out of it.

Mines a March 2022 build. I put in for a RivianCare estimate.

Yep, that's the conundrum. It's honestly a great vehicle but I told the service center folks the same: y'all are great but I'm tired of seeing ya...

The switch from R1 to R2 is much easier for people going from R1S to R2 than it is from R1T to R2.

I don't want an SUV. I use the bed.
Yep. I want a truck. I sold my 2019 Ram to get the R1T as a stop gap until the Scout Terra came out but I've really liked it and probably would keep it instead without the issues. But now the Terra is delayed beyond my warranty...

They ran the AC on max for hours and couldn't replicate the water...

My local SC has managed to turn what should have been a two hour appointment to get my alignment checked into a two-day affair (so far). Day one, they didn't get to it because other vehicles were on that lift (then why an appointment for said lift). Day two it was promised to be first up, but their software is apparently down nationally and they can't deactivate the air suspension.

Really, you can't make this stuff up.

There wasn't really anything to replace on the AC as it has always worked well. Just had to fix the drain line.

As for the scratch on the window tinting, it's a case of go get it fixed at a local tint shop and they submit the receipts for reimbursement.
