Just thought I'd share a few of my thoughts since many of you are coming from a Tesla too. This is in no particular order and I know this can be a little picky but you should know.

Current proximity locking sensor is wild. Unlocks and locks about 30-40 ft away. It's almost too strong. I dont want to be in the store and my car unlocking randomly.

Tried turning off proximity locking and realized you have to lock it on the phone unless I'm missing something.

Never had a key card backup before. Very convenient. Still might buy the keyfob. I dont like being so far away before it locks.

I miss the GPS knowing when to open the garage.

GPS satellite views are more dated. Not sure where the Riv gets it's info from. I believe the Tesla is Google.

The S had control stalks so no big change really.

The wipers have more speed options on the Rivian. Tesla auto wipers are useless.

No body squeaks on the Riv that I have noticed so far. The Tesla was getting a few but not bad considering the age and mileage.

Less forum support. They are very new vehicles so there are way less options for reading about the vehicle.

Rivian is so new that there are very few accessories so far.

The sound/audio in the Tesla is far superior. I'm hoping for more updates to fix this. Seems like there is too much emphasis on the center channel.

Messing with the equalizer helps a little but IMO it's still not great.

There is a radio in the Rivian. My model S didnt have it after the CPU upgrade. Am I old for noticing this?

In 2021 (?) I updated the computer in the Tesla. The Tesla shows no lag except for the browser which may be useless. Suprisingly i've noticed some lag in the Rivian.

J-1772 is not a big deal at all. I have a Tesla Universal charger and it switches seamlessly.

This thing is fast for being so damn big.

Wish it had captain chairs but that's no big deal for now.

I miss the calendar integration on the Tesla. It merged with my phone and I had it set to automatically put the address in the GPS every trip.

Google cast was a smart idea. Don't use it much but makes sense.

Alexa integration is acutally pretty neat. My kids will ask it random questions like at home.

The cameras are crazy clear in the Rivian.

Bird's eye view is also way more useful than I expected.

The 370-400ish of range in conserve mode seems to be pretty accurate and most likely will outlast your bladder.

You have the slam the rear doors a little harder than the fronts. I think it has a good seal.

The interior seems quieter than the model S.

The adaptive headlights are so bright. I think this is a bigger deal than some people give it credit for.

High regen is a nice option. This is true one foot driving. I assume I may never replace brakes on this car.

Powered frunk is very nice. Another reason to maybe push for getting a key fob. The gear shop has been out of stock for weeks.

I miss full self driving. I hope the tech is licensed from Tesla or something before the tech gap gets too big. The latest versions are wildly good and keep getting better (I had a older car but it was still well done). I love the Rivian but I did enjoy all the details of FSD improvment that constantly come out on the Tesla side.

The autonomy in the Rivian on the highway seems good but it didnt work on many parts of the highway

If I come up with any more I'll add it. Let me know what your thoughts are.

Welcome!

What Tesla are you coming from? The regen in the Rivan is definitely stronger, but one of our Teslas is pre-Raven and it doesn't come to a stop on its own, the other one more current and you can one-foot it.

I really like having the FM radio too, so much better than dealing with TuneIn. I want to see if it works for those local christmas lights displays that play music through the radio, too.

I believe Rivian's nav rendering and satellite maps are from Mapbox. Mapbox.com shows a few videos/images from inside a Rivian cabin.

Lastly, while I like proximity unlock, I agree it's not perfectly tuned yet. I would prefer it to activate when I am at most 6-10ft away from the car, and have guaranteed response time within 1-2 seconds so the door handles are always presented before I reach them. Tesla does this pretty well. Whereas with Rivian, it sometimes recognizes me far away from the driveway, and sometimes I hear it click and whir for a few seconds as I'm standing by the doors, pushing the door handles 2-3x to see if that does something.
