Has anyone here taken delivery of a 2024 R1S/T able to file amended 2022 tax return (via binding agreement) thru Turbotax desktop edition? I am in the process of doing this but when it asks the year model, the latest year is only at 2023 and no option for 2024 model year.

I’m in the same boat. I selected 2023 as this was the closest to our 2024 r1s. Submitted about a week ago so I don’t expect to hear anything for a few months.

I submitted a paper amended return on nov 6th and am still waiting to hear back. The IRS is supposed to call since it is taking so long.

With TurboTax not accepting the 2024 model year on the form input - I’m thinking you could enter a 2022 vehicle using the Easy Step questions to get the proper forms attached to your return. Then select the Forms interface and find the worksheet for the EV credit and manually change the data to state the vehicle was a 2024 model. This should get propagated to the other forms, but you can open those forms as well to verify. Once corrected, select Easy Step to return to the normal TurboTax interface.

Going to the Forms view is a good idea anyways - it gives you a chance to understand how the various things you entered actually interact. I scan the forms before filing every year to make sure they make sense to me.

Did you check online for the status? I filed and mailed Nov 28 and just got mine a couple of weeks back. Actually showed up as received Dec 12 online so the 16 to 20 week period is spot on.

Hope everyone is enjoying the Haloween organ music! I signed the binding agreement for the Rivian in 2022 and got delivery in 2023. I submitted an amended federal return, but it was rejected. Has anyone had success / failure in getting the 7500?

Mine got rejected. I'm sure my accountant didn't do something correctly ??‍. He'll fix it after the 15th ??.

I did and it tells me to call. When I they look into it and told me to just wait this it has not been processed but this last time since it was 20 weeks old they said someone will call you at some time in the next couple weeks. ??‍

Turbo Tax isn't sure how to fix this. When I do it online, I don't have the option to select a 2024 model year.

Mine was submitted Nov 18. Online and automated telephone system both state:

Your amended return information is currently unavailable in this application. It takes up to 3 weeks for an amended return to show on your account. You can generally expect your amended return to be processed within 16 weeks from the date we receive it. Check the date you filed your amended return and try again later.

we are in the process of doing this now. about to actually drop it off at the post office. just download the 2022 version of the form and fill it out manually to say "2024", and include it with your amended return. irs link for 2022 form below.

I signed the written binding contract on Aug 15, 2022 and took delivery of the first R1S that met my build. I purchased the R1S at the end of 2023 and it is labeled a 2024 model. My accountant says only 2022 and 2023 R1S are qualified vehicles per IRS. Frustrating since I filled out the contract, took delivery as soon as it was available (delays living in MT) and there is no real difference between model years 2023 and 2024.

I'm thinking of filing the 1040-X and 8936 on my own if anyone has been successful.

Yes. Got my check with interest last week and sent in the amended return in late January. I selected a 2023 model, despite mine being 2024. Doesn’t seemed to have mattered.
