You file using model year 2023 and your vin. Should be fine, it's how everyone has been doing it.

Interesting.. that was my initial thought but figured it would get rejected given its a 2025 and I assume they validate the VIN. Efiling via Turbotax for 2022 ended in October so it must be mailed. You file using model year 2023 and your vin. Should be fine, it's how everyone has been doing it.
It depends what version of TurboTax you used. TurboTax online allows efiling amendments as long as legally allowed, TurboTax desktop does not. IIRC, not as fluent with TurboTax.Interesting.. that was my initial thought but figured it would get rejected given its a 2025 and I assume they validate the VIN. Can you tell me what your reference to the IRS guidance doc is? You referring to the Rivian Binding Contract Agreement dated and signed 8/15/22 or something else? Thank you for the helpIt depends what version of TurboTax you used. TurboTax online allows efiling amendments as long as legally allowed, TurboTax desktop does not. IIRC, not as fluent with TurboTax.
The IRS does not seem to validate the VIN or any info as a general practice. They may already have the binding agreements from Rivian but I've never heard of them asking for that, either. Regardless the VIN would come back valid and the model year is irrelevant if you have the binding agreement.
People that have had trouble have mostly been from getting an IRS agent that doesn't understand the binding agreement allowance for amending returns. It's why it's strongly recommended to attach the IRS guidance document with a mailed in amendment.
I'm still waiting on my return. Filed it online 3/11/2024. When I check online it states it has not been processed and to call them. (I haven't received any notice from them in mail or email)
When you call them, it takes all your info and confirms they have your return but its taking longer to process and tries to connect you to an agent then states we are super busy and call back tomorrow.
Anyone else have experience with this scenario?
1) Yes.I am in in a similar situation. My amended return was received on 5/06/2024, and the status when I check online is also to call them.
Anyone here who was in this situation but eventually got their refund? How long did it take? Did you have to call and were you able to talk to someone?
Thanks!

I wouldn't waste your time with an in person visit. If folks have been waiting more than one year to process an amended return and are not getting any traction over the phone, then I'd get the Taxpayer Advocate involved. https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/contact-us/submit-a-request-for-assistance/Getting drawn out like that, you might want to call 844-545-5640 (found on https://www.irs.gov/help/let-us-help-you) and schedule an appointment at the local IRS office for assistance. Hopefully, you would get a better answer by dealing with someone directly.
Congrats! Almost exactly on target with the 16 week IRS estimate.Update:
I decided to give them another week or two to process my amended return and held off of on calling them (IRS). Sure enough, a check for $8300+ from the IRS arrived today in the mail. Checked the status online and now it is showing this:

For reference, see the timeline for my amended return below:
4/29/2024 - Mailed amended paper return to IRS
5/06/2024 - IRS received return
I checked status on 9/02/2024 and it was showing that it was past the 16-week normal processing time and that I should call them. I decided to wait another week or so before calling.
9/06/2024 - Status online showing as adjusted
9/09/2024 - Refund check arrived in the mail
Goodluck to everyone still waiting!
Looks like they're catching up a bit.Update:

Just wanted to say thank you for this post/advice. I involved a tax advocate after waiting over a year for my amended return to show signs of life after many phone calls to the IRS. That broke the log jam and my refund finally arrived after waiting 18 months. Better late than never I guessI wouldn't waste your time with an in person visit. It will likely take a few months, but you'll be assigned a local advocate that will take ownership of the issue and follow it through to resolution.
