I strongly suspect there was a large foundational rewrite of some core components for R2 which caused this.
If it is, that’s not good. They should have specific release candidates for each version of vehicle and/or an automated way to detect the target vehicle and deploy what’s appropriate.

I didn’t say OTA. I’ve personally signed off on vehicle reprograms that have found their way into well over 2 Million vehicles on the road. OTA and modern ECUs are easier in a way since the middleware unknowns are taken out of the equation.

Either way it’s cool if you want to disagree or whatever your post is about, I’m merely providing some insight that their process is broken or non-existent.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee has only received one OTA in the two years we have owned it. Seems like apples vs. oranges to me.

That's a pretty ridiculous generalization, considering Rivian has deployed roughly 50 major OTA update pushes at a cadence of about 12 per year with only 2-3 causing any sort of significant issues during that time.

To say the system is broken is to say that the exception is the rule. It's frustrating, and rule number 1 should be "do no harm," but ultimately Rivian has to balance the significant feature updates that customers expect and speed to deployment. Most times they get it right, but it does suck when they get it wrong.

I just got my lowest elevation in Death Valley last week. I’m hearing that this month’s update wipes those elevations away. Can others confirm this? Does it come back after a full reboot? That happened to me before. Haven’t received the update yet since I don’t have Connect+. I’ll be taking measures to prevent the update until there is a fix for this. It took too long to get my hi/low so far. šŸ˜†

Yep, totally wiped.

This bothers me more than it should. I had both Death Valley & Mount Blue Sky in mine, which are the highest and lowest drivable points in the US. The whole family thought that was pretty cool.

My high was at Lassen Volcanic NP last year. I was eying Mt. Blue Sky a few days ago. Told my wife yesterday that we need to make a trip out there.
I heard that your elevation stats will be restored in the next OTA. For now…that auto update button remains off.

I updated the first day available
Apple Music is working fine with no skips or pauses
It picks up right where it left off when pausing or leaving and the re-entering
I did lose the altimeter high and low
Sometimes the preset seat position gets lost if you are quick to shift into R or D before it goes thru the positioning sequence but I also think that was happening with the last version

It's a great trip! Just pay attention to when the road is open before you plan anything. The road to the top has been closed for a while, and I think is just re-opening sometime this summer.

I'm heading to Lassen and the Northern CA redwoods this summer.

I’m counting myself lucky. I got the update on Friday night and nothing serious. I was actually coming here to complement Rivian on Apple Music. It has operated PERFECTLY all weekend. Now I’m worried they’ll screw it up..

I guess this is the end result of Vibe Coding with an AI.

All of mine wiped on the last update. Guess, I was special to get a head start

Nice to see them cleaning up some of this stuff, but I wonder if Apple Music will also display album art again at some point? Obviously, not super important in the scheme of things, but feels annoying in the moment, especially when it shows on the driver display widget but not on the actual music panel.

(Passing over in silence the continued absence of adequate texting interface in the Gen 1, now 4 years in....)

I would like to see a Rivian Beta Testing Program. I think it could be very beneficial to us all.
That would be great - as long as they do some screening of the people they select. IMO it should be people who have some experience in the software development lifecycle and know how to properly document a bug report. "Sometimes when I click on button X nothing happens" is an essentially useless bug report.

An interesting experience after the 2026 .07 OTA, After the update required me to reclaim my phone as a key, verify my identiy, all seemed ok, but? The garage door action,(steering wheel button) was paused, it did not open or close the garage door as it had before the OTA. So, I did it manually went to town, when I returned it worked again. Is there a buffering time of OTA changes?
