2026.07 Software Update notes - features & fixes coming

My Gen2 R1S said it was going to update tonight… I just went down to plug it in and the update is gone.

I double checked and it is no longer downloaded.

I tried a hard reset and it’s on WiFi, but it’s gone.

Did Rivian pull the update down?

I guess we shall see on Monday if the downloads start again.

I was driving home today and Spotify started breaking up weirdly while playing. At the same time, the blinker camera was frozen on the driver display and the music controls on the wheel went unresponsive along with the center display. After a minute or two, both displays rebooted themselves and things went back to normal. It's been several months since I've had that happen, so they definitely missed something in this update. Sounds like they've since pulled it for now.

I noticed yesterday that when my music was breaking up it coordinated with the nav freezing.

It feels like I'm trying to run Windows 10 on a Pentium 486.

@Rivian Roamer mentioned on Reddit that it appears Rivian pulled the build. It is Hard for me to not be critical of their testing and release process but I am hopeful they figure it out.

I wonder if part of the issue is that the testers are biased because they know what they should be looking for so fail to look at everything, aka I know I am supposed to click button a then action b happens. They fail to check what happens if you click b then a then c then a then b to see if the something unexpected happens.?

When I had a Roku back in the old days, I was a beta tester. Just an end user, nothing special, but I also did things the way a user would, not necessarily the way it was supposed to be done. That uncovers bugs more effectively than by-the-book.

I would like to see a Rivian Beta Testing Program. I think it could be very beneficial to us all.

This is all swell. Usually, it takes a few days before my number comes up for any access to a software update. This time, I think I was in the very first batch - woo-hoo, lucky me. I’m afraid I made the mistake of jumping right in with this sketchy update. Then, the bugs show up and it gets pulled. What are the odds

I entered the vehicle twice now and it lost access to the internet for Apple Music but picks up playing where I left off. To get things back I click out to the radio and back and it connects.

I feel a noticeable difference in steering though. It feels more controlled, no movement.

I strongly suspect there was a large foundational rewrite of some core components for R2 which caused this.

I am a little salty since I applied for (and was ignored) various positions with Rivian around Product and Project Management. I managed releases for the Hyundai, Chrysler and Mercedes brand diagnostic systems as well as held various positions as a release engineer and they can’t get it right and seem to lack a real DVP&R and governance around many things they do.

Haven't noticed any issues on my R1S's, both got the update.

I am a little salty since I applied for (and was ignored) various positions with Rivian around Product and Project Management. I managed releases for the Hyundai, Chrysler and Mercedes brand diagnostic systems as well as held various positions as a release engineer and they can’t get it right and seem to lack a real DVP&R and governance around many things they do.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee has only received one OTA in the two years we have owned it. Seems like apples vs. oranges to me.
