This is just puzzling at this point. I just don't understand how such an early VIN will be delivered in late September. Emailing with local delivery team and they do not have answers either other than "maybe something is wrong with the previously assigned VIN". Not a great experience as a first time Rivian customer so far.
  • Ordered on July 22 (CC, 20")
  • Assigned VIN 2085 same day with a delivery of Aug 26
  • A few days later VIN changed to 1035 and delivery rescheduled to Sep 4
  • Today, VIN remains the same but delivery rescheduled to Sep 25

I took delivery of a 1300s VIN 12 days ago.

My guess would be 1035 needed to go back for repairs (or wait for parts) and/or is in the wrong part of the country and needs to travel to get to you.

You may be able to ask them to un-match you from the VIN again and try again, as it seems later VINs are moving faster now than they were a month ago. But that could be a gamble too depending on their production allocation.

I am guessing they are awaiting the receipt and installation of a faulty part. Surprised they don’t assign you yet another VIN to expedite delivery. Candidly quite ridiculous. Transportation issues might be compounding your delivery.

Probably not a huge deal. My R1S was built 10/11/2022 and I picked it up late January 2023 at the factory. I’ve had good luck with it.

I was at the Costa Mesa service center yesterday and they had an R2 in the 400s still in the lot.

Something similar for me - R1T built in June 2023, picked up in Feb. 2024. No major issues (other than a rattle in the dash that only pops up during the summer....)

That's good to know. Sounds like I don't need to worry about it. I still would like better communication from Rivian on such delays.

For background, I ordered my truck in January 2024....

Probably a dumb question, but how can I determine my build date? Is it a matter of decoding the VIN, or is there a decal hidden on the door jam or something? Just curious.

The month and year will be in the door jamb of the car on the spec sticker. "07/26" for example is July 2026.

If you connect to Rivian Roamer (and maybe other telematics services), they can find your exact build date from the API.

Well, here's an interesting data point: my delivery for tomorrow was cancelled and rescheduled to next Tuesday. I just got a call from the local SC and was told the techs need more time to perform the PDI and calibrations. He said that they have only done about 10 R2 deliveries in Austin and are still getting up to speed on the process for R2 and its taking some more time than they anticipated. He did not say there were any identified issues with my VIN at this point.

[Edit: I just got a response from the [email protected] account saying the cancellation is "due to a delay in rail, most likely" and that the delivery team would reach out (which they already had). Clearly, they did not actually check anything because they should have known my car was already at a SC, and if there was a rail delay why would they wait until 24 hours prior to reschedule. They would have known well before that if it really was stuck in transit.]

Full timeline:
  • Reserved 3/7/2024
  • Invited to order 6/16/2026
  • Order placed 6/16/2026
  • Pre-production email: 6/27/2026
  • VIN assigned/purchase steps begin: 7/6/2026
  • Original Pickup scheduled 7/22/2026 (for 8/7)
  • New Pickup scheduled 8/6/2026 (for 8/11)

I'm frustrated that my pickup was cancelled with less than 24 hours to go, but I am glad the delay is small. Seems like Rivian needs to get their SC techs up to speed and also figure out their logistics. I would have rather been told "your car in transit, we'll reach out soon to soon to schedule delivery" and only been given a delivery appointment once it was at the SC and they knew about how long it would take them to get through the inspection. Ideally the "appointment scheduled" to actual appointment date would only be a couple days rather than the several weeks it seems most people are getting, and then having it changed out from under them last minute.
