Many people say they enjoy good engine noise, but I suspect it's not really that they enjoy noise. I think it's the association of the noise with the feel of the torque that they enjoy.
Before ordering my first EV, I thought I would miss engine noise. I probably did for a while, but now I love...
I agree with hsctiger. I had Tesla Roadster #690 and Model S #112. Sure, both had some issues. But the company's service was very different then - it had to be. They really worked hard to take care of issues and make things as easy as possible on us.
Sure, a car with no issues would have been...
I was invited to order on June 17 2026. I have an R1S, I live near a service center, and I reserved my R2 the first day (though not early in the day).
I spent some time researching and test driving other cars. I was hoping for something even smaller than the R2. But there are not many that are...
Agreed that kneel behavior changing could be a big deal...especially if it's been happening, and I haven't heard about it even though I follow these forums. OP might not hear until it's too late. Now I see that it was covered in THIS thread about a software update about 4 months ago.
Also don't forget to include instructions for how to buy peanut butter if you are out (after the instructions for searching the refrigerator, counters and cupboards for peanut butter). The instructions must work in every house, and for every store. Remember they may not have a car, and you have...
Funny. Yes, despite many coders working hard to write great software, the software was not great. Which leads me to another important point about the difficulty of releasing good software: the people writing the software often don't get to pick the delivery date. Or the feature set, which often...
Completely agreed. The first example that came to mind when I read this was the hard disk device driver for Microsoft Windows (called WIndows NT when I wrote it around 1990). I had it running fine in 2 or 3 days. But then I spent 6 months making sure that every path would recover gracefully if...
I had my test drive today (it was impossible to find openings in the area...until I got my invitation to order). I have an R1S (Gen 1 Quad, Large pack), so I will mostly compare it to that. My wife has a Model X and I had a Model Y before the R1S. The R2 I drove had the 20" ATs.
Overall...
I remember at least one Tesla getting fried by lightning. We once lost a microwave. It's not common, but it's not hard to avoid either.
My grandfather was killed by lightning...he saw the storm coming and headed back towards the house on his tractor, but didn't quite make it.
Just piling on...
My only concern (for OP) is the same as BigSkies': the distance to the service department. If OP can live with that, and OP is otherwise fine with one car, so I don't see why it can't be an EV.
While we have two cars, they have both been EVs since 2009 - not only do we not...
Indeed - like the 1912 Baker Electric I was next to in Portland. Back in the day they had all sorts of things - personal and commercial EVs, home charging stations, battery swapping stations, etc.
In fact at some point - I dare say around 1909 - EVs had the greatest market share. Although a lot...
Thanks for posting, I love these things.
In 1909, Seattle held an "Alaska Yukon Pacific" Exposition that drew 3.7 million people. It was held on land that is now part of the University of Washington; in fact a couple of the exposition buildings are still a part of U.W.
As part of the event...
Several more photos of how the original Quikrstuff Mach2 fits on an R1S are HERE. I have been very happy with the rack; in fact one of the things I like is how close it fits.
FSD works more places, but most of those places i don't want to use it because it makes enough mistakes i have to watch it so carefully it doesn't feel like a benefit. Where i would use it on the freeway, our Rivian does well. Other opinions vary, but my wife and I don't miss FSD at all...
Similar to mkg3, the frunk. Specifically, that it has a powered hood with a button to open it.
I had several EVs with frunks before the Rivian, but i had to get in the car or bring up the phone app to unlatch the hood, and then lift it - a real pain when your hands are full of groceries.
I agree that the dealers have a legitimate fear. I'd still like to see a mechanism to allow other new EV companies (heck, any new company) sell directly, if they don't have an existing dealer network...and aren't trying to just get around it on a technicality. I admit that could be difficult...
