Can't speak to R2, but in R1, there is not really any way to "keep the a/c on". If you walk away from the car, it will turn itself off after a few minutes.

Oh, I missed that they added this feature sometime in 2025. I always used pet mode for this.

Here's another food for thought. (Not a complaint, just some additional observation) As much as Rivian highlights the rear roll down window as a great feature for dogs, the bigger concern is something that can't be fixed with a software update, which is the lack of dedicated air vents in the very back for pets.

I understand the R2 isn't a three row SUV, but having only low mounted center vents for the second row feels like a compromise. I think ceiling mounted vents are far more effective, especially for keeping the rear of the cabin comfortable for passengers or pets.

True. The only other vehicle that comes to mind is the 4Runner.

My point was that if Rivian is going to lean into being pet friendly with a unique feature like the power rear glass, it makes the lack of dedicated rear cargo area vents stand out even more. Those two features would have complemented each other really well. Even 4Runner owners have been wishing for better rear vent placement for years because of the lack of airflow to the back.

The good news is that there are outlets back there to hook up a fan in the R2.

That said, no vehicle is perfect, and you can't have it all.

Sure, just push it out. Who cares if it hasn't been thoroughly tested - what's the worst that can happen? At least we won't have to listen to complainers on the internet ....

Sheesh, you complain about software quality then you give them shit if they take the time to do it right. In the grand scheme of things, pet mode is a really minor feature, not an essential feature. (Remind me again what percentage of vehicles sold in the US come with a pet mode?) It was far more important to the future of the company to start shipping R2 on time, even if they had to leave out a feature or two. Again in the grand scheme of things, they will have shipped probably <1000 vehicles total to customers by the time the software gets updated. And if those people didn't want to live for a month without pet mode they could have delayed delivery for a month. But I'm guessing no-one did ...

Relax mate. I have a R1 with pet mode. Don't use it much. I have a reservation for a R2. I'm not dead set on pet mode. I'm not complaining. I completely understand why it was delayed. I have not complained about s/w quality. Not sure where you got that from.

Pet mode is just one of a set of features that are inexplicably missing in OS 2.0 that were added to 1.0 over the last four years. It's almost as if they put a new GUI on the OG software. Pet mode is one thing that affects a certain demographic, but how could they not have garage doors at launch?

If I had a dollar for every guy who claims something is easy to implement or fix via software I’d have enough to fix my out of warranty suspension.

As someone with a November - December 2026 R2 order... I keep seeing clean good mileage R1T/R1S for around the same price as my R2 will be.

But I just can't do it because I don't want to fix an out of warranty R1 suspension lmao
