That's a beautiful silver color, and works so nice with the gunmetal wheels, the white light strip, can balance out either the black or light colored interior.

If I was buying I might just go silver, save a few bucks.

My S2K was silver (Silverstone Silver, named after the racing circuit in England) , one of my faves (especially with a red interior) :)

That's gorgeous. I've always loved the S2k.

I feel like black is the least-seen R1 color (at least around where I live). I've only ever seen one or two of them and it is, by far, my least favorite color on R1.
Absolutely (re: least favorite color). There's something about a black R1 that makes it look totally not-a-Rivian to me. Every (thankfully rare) time I see one I think wow, that's a weird looking Suburban.

I also think the take up rate will be lower on the R2 for the Midnight. On the R1, with that price point, you can swallow the additional cost. For $2k on the R2, that is premium color territory. Even if you abhor Catalina Cove and Borealis, I'd say you might as well get the HMG or Forest Green for cheaper. Or just take free silver altogether. Black cars are nice but maintenance to keep them clean is anything but premium.

My guess anyway.
I understand your point but launch green and Catalina Cove are $2000 and 70%+ of people have ordered those two colors so it is not a cost issue. As with R1 black is just very unpopular and they should get rid of it and add red, yellow or something else.

Same. I will literally never use them.

But do they look cool on the R2? My brain has already decided. "Well, if the Esker Silver is free...so you save on paint...so the cross bars are basically free?"

Good move, Rivian. Good move. Did a great job at making me fool myself.
That is some strong girl math right there.

That's kind of my point. If you are paying $2k, you might as well get the cool or exclusive colors. $2k at this price point for black is a huge question mark.

I do hope they see the results and like you said, add red or something, but I doubt given that every company feels like they have to offer black.

Agree every company feels it has to offer black - seems more out of habit than market forces (at least for Rivian)

Supposedly it's RJ's least favorite color. He had to be convinced to even offer it, apparently (I'd love to remember the source on that, but it is escaping me right now.....)

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Good old '80s, the year I got out of the USAF and my second daughter was born. First new car, Red Toyota. Second, Yellow VW. 3rd, Black Gremlin and was the car I was driving in 1972 when I went in the USAF. I won't keep going for fear of boring everyone.
My Dad had a sky blue Gremlin with white stripes. Something like this…

You’re correct. He mentions it in more than one podcast/video.

Let's hope that Rivian doesn't meet the same fate as AMC. I loved my Gremlin but also wished for an AMX. Several years later, I had an Ambassador Wagon as our family hauler for a couple years. The Pacer was another unique car but never owned one.

You have to give AMC credit for some really unique designs. I loved the early AMXs; very cool looking.

That's gorgeous. I've always loved the S2k.
Thanks, it was setup nicely too, coils, those wheels were Japanese imports, nice 255/35 tire setup, OEM (import) front lip and rear wing, a few minor performance odds and ends (a very cool, Ti exhaust setup). Such a beautiful, minimal, near perfect roadster execution, one of the great driver's vehicles, and it still looks reasonably modern today.

They should've just made a 3rd Gen with the Civic Type R engine, some updated electronics in the dash, everything else about the same, but small, minimalist , 2-seater roasters only available in manual, kind of became a thing of the past (outside of the Miata).

I won in on a auction for like $18K (which was shocking ... given the mint condition and 8K miles at the time), owned it for 5 years, put on maybe another 10K miles over that time, sold it for $25K - and no kidding - 30 minutes after I posted it :)

The only major mileage was a weekend trip to The Dragon, what a blast. Never got this ride on track like some other cars I owned, but it would've been fun.

OK, back to talking about silver vehicles :D

Eh, to heck with it, one more pic :)

Yeah, when I bought my first black car, I hated it, I said "Never again".

When I bought my 5th black car, still hated it, I said, "OK, this time for real ..."

🤪

Black is amazing (on some vehicles) for the 5 minutes it's clean right after a detailing ...

Wow, that must have been hard to part with. I'd still like to try one, but I'm having a ball with my stock NC Miata.

My first and only black vehicle was also my first truck, an early Tacoma single cab, short bed with a manual. Nice little truck, and I didn't worry too much about keeping it shiny. The buyer supposedly took it to St Thomas, so it's probably still down there, living the good life.
I've only seen about two Rivians in black. They were clean, so I thought they looked great, but I wouldn't get it.
