I thought about carrying my old trusty craftsman battery charger in the gear tunnel just in case someone needed a jump. What do you think?

My 200A jump starter would trip off constantly if the receiving battery was actually dead enough to take the full current. 60A mode seemed okay, but it means waiting for the charge a bit instead of just a quick jump.

Why carry something that big? Now they have jump starters that are the size of an over-sized power bank. Small enough to fit under the seat or in your door pocket. Gone are the days of carrying around jumper cables.

I keep an emergency jump box from my old trucks in the frunk. Old habits die hard.

Also one time used my Riv to power a battery charger at my 95-year-old grandma's place. One of these:

It worked, but this was about the most inefficient waste of energy I could imagine. 😆

I carry a Weego 44S in the Rivian specifically for this purpose (and in case I need to jump one of my ICE vehicles).

I do not. Can't recall a single instance where opportunity presented itself. Plus, SoCal is densely populated and anyone having trouble, help is just one call away (i.e. they shouldn't have any problems helping themselves). And if I was paranoid about 12V failure for myself, chances are the little NOCO jump pack I have for past ICE car won't do any good. What would work, is a bit much to keep in a truck that can get very hot parked in the sun.

Yeah I used one of these in my Subaru like a month ago when I accidentally drained the battery while detailing/paint correcting/ceramic coating in the garage. Like, totally dead. Little power bank jumped it with ease!

Only problem is making sure the battery bank is actually charged when you need it. Gotta charge it up every several months or so or it gets too low.

It’s been at least 15 years since someone needed that around me. But…

*I* needed that when my Rivian 12v led to being towed from Kingman to the Vegas SC. My little jump pack sitting in our ICE backup car would have saved the day. Pretty dumb of me too because it’s a tiny neighborhood and errand car that sees 200 miles a year at most.

I have a battery system I carry. It was mostly for my winch, but I made a jumper cable connector as well. Has three 750cca 100AH batteries in parallel and a 60a charger inside. (older photo - I've since added turn buckle tie downs to the front tie downs.)

Not really over doing it for the 12k winch. Gives about an hour of heavy pull. Gave it a workout once assisting another pull a Jeep Cherokee vertically 85ft over a very steep and crappy terrain and it was barely enough.

It has been over a decade where I offered to jump someone else's vehicle using my own. The last time I did was a bad experience. I guess if your battery is older and some cells/modules are done, that jump kills the remaining ones...which it did. Left me stranded afterwards.

Haven't done it since (with my own vehicle). I've done it numerous times with a jump box. Usually neighbors/friends since I don't often carry it with me.

There's always a vehicle at the ferry terminal that needs a jump. The reality is, I've actually used it more at work to jumpstart other trades forklifts.

Super handy, keeps a charge for ages, and does the job!

I have a NOCO Jump Starter in my Frunk. Used once to successfully help a Lady in a Nissan Sentra so far :)

A 15A trickle charger should work fine, and it would feel good if you ever had to use it. If the R1 can run toaster ovens and microwaves, it should run a charger, but you will be there a while. As some have posted, if you had access to one of the portable jumper devices (battery pack), it would jump them quickly and let you get down the road faster.
