Works great if the lot has the space to do so. More sites need to add a pull through charger for trailers

I swear, if they made an electric Switch they'd have my money in a heartbeat. Doesn't even need DCFC, just give it a good 48amp 240v charger and I'm in.
You’d need one helluva battery. Mine guzzles gas (jets are less efficient than props). I can easily cook off 15-20 gallons of gas in an afternoon on an active day. (30 gal tank) At a super rough 10 kWh per gallon (a gallon of gas has about 33kwh in it, a gas engine is about 30% efficient), that’s a 150-200kwh battery equivalent minimum.

I’d be right behind you though. Once we get another generational jump in battery storage technology, I’d be all over an electric boat.

How do you like your switch?
Love it. Got it in late 2022. It’s been a great family boat. I couldn’t find anything else that compares. It does 40+mph unloaded, 34 with 5 or 6 on board. 21 foot pontoon but still fits in my 24’ garage with a fold away tongue. (A traditional pontoon will be at least 30’ on the trailer). The storage and reconfigurable on it are awesome.

Yeah the reconfigurable seats are super cool. Glad you’re enjoying yours.

We've done this 2k+ miles round-trip twice and have managed not to disconnect once. That being said, the trailer is pretty small so I could often go in and angle the trailer so it wouldn't block anyone.

Off topic:

May I ask what type of motorcycle trailer that is?

I have a small dirt/dual sport bike I'd like to trailer around but they seem so expensive for what you get. The "nice" Kendon bike ones are several thousand. It is literally an axle, hitch, and tray lols.

Almost tempted to build one myself.

If I can find one that's portable (I can probably store that somewhere on the side of my house without too much trouble) and a few hundred bucks, I'd love to pick one up.

I'm also not to keen on using one of those hitch motorcycle carriers even though weight restrictions say it is fine. Hitting a dip, I feel the entire hitch/rack would snap off.

This was my thread on the topic: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...carriers-recommended-or-not-300lb-bike.45433/

It's an Ace Folding Motorcycle Trailer. But they are expensive for what you get. And they rattle a lot! Fortunately the Rivian is pretty well insulated against noise so you really don't hear it with the windows closed. I used blue loc-tite everywhere and still had to re-tighten enroute.

Truth be told, if it didn't HAVE to be stored in the bed, I might have gone with a modified Harbor Freight folding trailer. I would have, at the least, have gotten something to tow both bikes. Loading into the bed is sketchy at best. Even with 3 loading ramps (which fold and happen to fit well in the gear tunnel 😀 ).

I haven't yet gotten around to writing my blog post about our 5,000 km (3,125 miles) towing trip this spring, but I'll briefly add to this thread that I didn't drop my trailer a single time over that entire trip!!

Google map route link

Any other EV truck, due to poor charging port placement in relation to the current state of charging infrastructure (and likely the state of charging for the next 5+ years), would have required me to drop the trailer multiple times. A huge win in my books.

How do you like the switch? Long time Yamaha jet boat owner here, and I really like the concept of that boat. *edit* Nevermind. I see you've already answered this one.

Also, what kind of efficiency are you getting while towing that thing? Getting 1.3 towing my AR190.

Generally 0.9 to 1.1, speed dependent. 70 on the freeway is closer to 0.9 or 0.95. 55 on back roads closer to 1.1.
