After having so many service issues, I don't think I can stomach the risk of buying a Land Rover.

I like the looks of the audi Q models, just need to drive one. Might even try to stretch into an RS Q8.
I owned a 2011 LR4 and would never buy a Land Rover again. So many issues later in its life. First five years were just oil changes, etc., but then everything started to break down after that.

The RS6 and the Taycan Turismo do interest me.... Don't know if the wife would let me get a wagon. But I might anyway.
She will deal with it, my wife didn't like my wagons but loved that I did and that was enough for her to tolerate it; I had a CTS-V Wagon and Mercury Sable Wagon.

Replacement Options:
CPO Taycan CrossTurismo was on my short list when I was discussing the option of a buyback, but then you lose towing.
Same with the Ioniq 5 N.

If still wanting SUV and towing, my alternative was a CPO Cayenne PHEV.

Frame of reference: I was looking at these personally when looking for alternatives if they bought my truck back (had some service issues in the beginning). I also was not wanting to go back to ICE if I could avoid it.

I'm surprised there's only been one mention of Cadillac Vistiq, and that was an edit. It seems like a viable alternative to R1S, with similar size and on-road performance. The design is not as polarizing as the Lyriq. The biggest negative is no front storage.

I forgot the iX. Those are nice, but they aren't SUVs. If you don't need the extra space of the R1S or the towing, then the iX would be my choice.
I’d second that. We replaced our Model X with an iX and my wife loves it. We miss the third row sometimes but the build quality is excellent, it’s been trouble free so far, and no swasticar associations. Got a crazy deal after taking leasehacker listings to a local dealer. Significantly less expensive than an R1T.

If you want to go from A to B (not a Rivian thing) then an Equinox EV AWD. I’m leasing one waiting for my R2. Roomy, fast enough, reliable (so far.) Not bad looking. Avoid the FWD. And you can get them cheap.

The new Lucid Gravity GT looks nice.

Depends on where you live. I have no service centers within 300 miles. Rivian SC is 40 miles away and I can get an appointment in 4 days.

I'd be in the Gravity camp first if no serious offroading. Next would be the Macan EV but they are pretty tiny inside. I've driven my friend's ICE Macan and it isn't very roomy.
The Audi Q6 is based on the same platform. I've driven both multiple times and - as much as I want the Porsche because "Porsche" - the Q6 is much more practical, though more storage space comes at a range hit. I also like the Q6's infotainment stuff more, too.

But, the Gravity also looks amazing, though I'm sure the videos have been showing us the Dream version at $140k.

I’m also open to going back to ICE. Just not sure where to land since I’d planned on being in this truck for a very long time.
The new Lexus GX is pretty awesome

How do you get a hold of a vehicle's service history? I've been looking to buy a used R1T. Thanks
Rivian has been known to give it to prospective buyers on request, and if they won't the seller/dealer, etc.. can request it for you.

Make an EV version of the FJ Cruiser I had be and I'd buy one in an instant, range be damned.

It has been interesting to see other people's thoughts. The Lexus are so fugly looking I couldn't own one now.

The more I thought about it, if something happened to my R1T, it would be the Gravity. Instead of the Macan, I'd go with a Taycan Cross or Sport Turismo. I saw one yesterday that looked stunning in all black and dark-tinted windows. I swore I never would own another black car but that one had me rethinking my promise.

I came from a 2014 4-Runner. It’s crossed my mind to simply go back but there’s no way I’ll be happy with that 4.0 V6 that felt slow BEFORE I owned an R1T…

I’m looking at a GX, but not loving what I’ve read so far from new owners since their update.
New 4-Runners apparently have a ton of issues. It's a little hard to make a recommendation when I don't know what you're willing to spend. Is another EV truck out of the question or does it have to be an SUV?

The new 4cyl Toyota motor has issues which is why I recommended the GX550 over the small Land Cruiser. That hybrid system just sucks and doesn't help mpg much.

The FJC is ok looking but never really appealed to me though a bunch of friends had them. Same wierd hatchback shape as the Macan and the Touismo. For sure tastes vary. The era of the GX460 was horrendous. Every Lexus model had the same terrible grill from the IS. It was fine on the IS but they pasted it on everything after that. They look like vacuum cleaners.

I am getting closer to Lemon Lawing my Rivian R1S, which i have owned for 40 days and have been able to use for 2 of those...here is what i am looking at, and will only buy electric as any gas car is just going to have major issues at some point in its life.
1. Lucid Gravity - lower cost one in another 6 months or so
2. Cadillac Vistiq - not available yet.
3. Volvo EX90

The Lucid Gravity will have multiple offroad options in software added sooner rather than later. Looking at all specs (range, accel, cargo space, speed of charging, etc) the Gravity matches or beats the Rivian on all specs apart from ground clearance and towing. So if you need a 3-row vehicle that is electric, fast, quiet, high end, touring capable, etc then the Gravity is an excellent option. It will also Supercharge anc charge at rates far far faster than the Rivian. As for Lucid not being around in a few years - their major backer is Saudi, who for all intents and purposes has unlimited wealth, and Lucid is really their #1 EV play - and the tech for the most part beats everyone else's. They just need to start shipping more vehicles...

Your other option is to buy a used gas car, use it for 2 years to wait for Rivian and Lucid and others to shake out, and then buy a used one for a lot less than a new one!

I have a 2024 Sequoia. It’s the same V35 v6 twin-turbo in the GX, with the hybrid added on. It’s a very smooth and strong powertrain.

I wanted to get a Gen 2 R1T but I need the max pack to tow our boat. I didn’t feel all that great about spending $73k for Sequoia, let alone $94k for the Rivian. It’s more principle than the actual cost.

Just my 2 cents, but if you are coming out of an R1T and wanted something similar but not Rivian, you might consider the Chevy Silverado EV (or one of the sister trucks from GM).

I have driven those long distance while my R1T was in SC and they seem to hold up well. A bit larger in all dimensions. Feel pretty solid. Decent truck bed if that is needed. Less a software-centric vehicle. The one drove had a very basic interior.

Anyway, it's what I would get if an R1T didn't exist.
