I've ordered a Lexus 550 GX Overtrail+.
I have the same motor on my 24 Sequoia. Be prepared to never even sniff the EPA rated economy. Also, if you have a vocal inner child like me, get some either K&N intake filters or CAI’s. If you squint, you can imaging you’re driving a Supra from the 90’s.

Im aware of the low mileage. Figuring on about 16-17 mpg. I’m ok with that. Electric isn’t saving the earth at this point anyway. Just tired of limiting where I can go because of my vehicle. As a daily driver, it’s very nice. But still with the newer systems, there are many glitches that should not be. It’s not easy for a new company to grow and be profitable at the same time. I’ll be back when they are less buggy, more chargers and a range of not less than 500 miles.

I hear you. Practially how many vehicles have ranges of 500 miles? Why carry around the extra weight when you don't need it all the time?

What I'd love to see is an easy to add range extender for when you need it that you could rent. This of course presupposes there is no charging infrastructure where you are at. That really is the crux of it anyway (and the charging times).

No matter what, someone is going to have a corner case where an EV might not work. For me, thankfully it works well and I am performance junkie so EVs and I get along quite well.

I am all in on EVs and have been since about 2017 and only bought 2 ICE cars or trucks since then. Motorcycles I am still in the ICE camp but have several BEV motorcycles but my ratio there is about 5 ICE motorcycles to every BEV motorcycle.

Hopefully what you buy next will better meet your needs. I am still pissed off too about how all the money that was supposedly spent on charging infrastructure seemed to result in almost nothing under Biden's administration. Where are the chargers they were supposed to directly fund?

That 17mpg is still ambitious unless you’re on the highway, think more like 14mpg.

to be clear, I want an R1T, I just refuse to spend $95k for a truck. As soon as I can get a max pack for cheaper, I’ll be in.

I’ve got 2 friends with a GX 550 and that’s what they get combined. I briefly looked at the max pack before purchasing but it seemed outrageous to pay an additional 10k for a battery that doesnt give that much more in range. Especially since the technology is changing so fast. Not sure if you’ve looked at the Scout, but looks like it will solve issues for many. Not sure it’s the right fit for me either. The perfect on road/ off road EV SUV hasn’t been made yet.

Just look for a Gen 1, dual large. It is almost as big as the max piack and you can pick them up in the mid to low 60's for a 2024 with low miles. A friend just did and it is a great truck. You are looking at 130 kWh vs 140. Won't make a difference for the vast majority of people.

I have a Scout reservation from 3 minutes into them opening. I tow a boat so I need the big boy battery. The premium and luxury trims might be able to get 17 combined, throw on large A/T's and that gets trashed. I know my Sequoia is larger than the GX, but it's the same engine and my economy tanked after putting on the KO3's.

I thought about that before trading in the my trusty 2012 4Runner for the Sequoia. At the time Gen 1's were still demand high numbers. I'm going to hold off for the Gen 3, odds are they're only 2ish years away at this point.

Yeah electricity run things probably will save the world from the worst of climate change.

drive 7000lb vehicle full of lithium mined by African slave children or emit a marginal amount of co2 into the atmosphere.

Silverado EV has a trail boss version coming for 2026. I sure hope Rivian service improves soon...mainly the wait times both for an appointment and after drop off.

The standard range Rivian is a great value IMO. If you have access to decent charging 260-270 miles range is very reasonable.

Ultimately, for an adventure truck, I do think Rivian needs to come with a 180 kWh + battery because many Rivian owners…myself included….need long range towing capability.

BMW makes good EVs. I just wish the iX was not hideous
A lot of BMWs recently have been so hideous, maybe not Cybetruck hideous, but enough that I think they started the trend of hideous higher-end cars. It absolutely prevented me from buying a lot of them.

I couldn't get past how ugly the grill was. It was full stop and on to Audi, MB or Porsche for my daily driver until I started buying Teslas.

I completely agree. The front grille is awful and so outrageously overstated. For me, I find the the sides of the iX toward rear particularly cringey

...I am all in on EVs and have been since about 2017 and only bought 2 ICE cars or trucks since then....
In the last year or so, I've done a complete 180 degree on EV only thing.

I used to be, after Tesla and Rivian, the only EV is the way to from now on. No gas stations - charge overnight at home and only use DCFC on road trips, no scheduled maintenance - oil change, flush and replace fluids, brake service and so on. The biggest thing was time savings of not have to take the vehicle in for service.

Even with all the advantages, today, my future vehicle selection as what we own gets replaced or added to is:

Daily driver = EV for sure (I like the supe'd up golf cart)
Road tripper = ICE or PHEV (I am not a fan of having to maintain two drive systems though...)
Weekend/toy car = who cares (whatever I want happens to be)

So OP's question is it depends on what the intent is and the use case. I think a truck, used as a truck (and not just daily driver) probably should be an ICE vehicle to retain all the capabilities. Since SUV was mentioned by OP, if its a family wagon so to speak, then is it needs haul things including people AND go on road trips anywhere without constraints of charging stations, I believe.
