I'm considering asking SC to replace my Gen 1 inner and outer tie rods with the updated rods used on Gen 2 vehicles because I heard they are stronger. SC will happily do it, but they haven't been able to confirm that the Gen 2 tie rods are stronger than Gen 1.

Has anyone done this swap on their Gen 1? Were the Gen 2 rods stronger?

From what I can find, parts are identical. There's no differentiation between gen 1 and gen 2 tie rod parts.

Personally I haven't heard that they changed the tie rods, or that they are stronger.

Later Gen1 inner tie rods (like mine) are M16 threads, earlier were M14, so 2mm difference. They even have different part numbers. I don't know about Gen2, but I have seen and measured both Gen1 versions.
Interesting! Just a guess, but I wonder if they changed this when they changed the front subframe from welded to cast? Around Feb. 2023. Or luck of the draw, like some of the other Gen1 changes? LOL. ?

Thanks, that helps. I'll have to pull out the calipers and see what I have.

Update: Calipers read 14mm at the knuckle-end of the tie rod on my Gen 1 R1S. If the new rods are 16mm, I'll ask the SC to swap them.

Anyone know if the Gen 2 tie rods are actually stronger than Gen 1? I’ve seen some talk about improvements, but not sure if it’s a real upgrade or just minor tweaks.

Don't mean to be rude here and appreciate you searched the forum, but did you read this tread with the exact same question from the OP? Several responses already confirmed this.

I have a 2024 built Gen 1.

Are all 2024 M16?

We don't know exactly when it changed, you'll just have to measure. Mine is one of the last 2024, from March, VIN 41XXX. Service can tell by the vin and can order the correct part number if you buy a spare (but double check it on arrival).

I know that the tie rods changed sometime in 2023. I have a Gen 1 2023 R1S and ordered some tie rod braces (Busterbrace from Broncbuster) for off roading. The braces did not fit my larger braces and the original design of the tie rods were used as a template for the braces.

Could you share those part numbers?
