No Longer Wish to Use Tesla Supercharger Network

Anyone else have zero desire to utilize the Tesla Supercharger Network unless they absolutely must?

We shall see. Politics are not aside; I despise anything with Musks fingers on it, and the more I see how he's meddling with world politics, the more I despise him. That and Tesla voted to give him a $54B (that's BILLION!) bonus (currently on hold by a judge). He and they obviously do not need my money.

That said, the local Tesla charging station is just way too convenient. There is one EVGo charger in town; I have not tried it yet, but I am planning on it. Learned the benefits of keeping the Rivian at 70% capacity (Daily Drive setting). That IS in the range when charging stations will just give you full throttle on a recharge. I charged up at Tesla yesterday from 48%, and I was in and done to 70% within 16 minutes. I was going to the Tesla stations because they are in a parking lot for a gas station / convenience store (read coffee and snacks).

Why are you and so many others automatically associating a dislike of Trump with politics and being against cutting spending, balancing the budget, shrinking the government, keeping the money at home, etc? My dislike of Trump goes back to the 80s and 90s when he ripped off HUNDREDS of companies and people in Atlantic City and the greater Philadelphia area. Working in the Philadelphia area, I personally knew employees of contractors that worked on Trump's Casino projects. He screwed more than 200 contractors out of over $72 million. Contractors went out of business because of Trump.

Edit: here is proof of just half of it, this goes way back before politics.

He has a habit of doing that. As someone who used to own a contracting company people like that are complete scumbags.

That deal was in place while your boy was still president. What else ya got?
Uh... why you calling him "my boy". I in no way pledged allegiance to either side. Not everyone has a "side" here, Mr. Defensive.
I was just inferring that the DOGE is all about cost cutting while a $400 milllion deal with HIS company is still on the table.

Obviously? No. My opinion is "yes" it is quite obviously the benchmark in North America which is why Ford, Rivian, Polestar/Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai/Genesis/Kia, etc. have sought and received access at considerable expense.

Shhheeeeeyat, and I thought I was crazy!

More elegant? Seriously? Yeah, seriously, have you picked-up any CCS1 cables? They are huge and more prone to breaking due to being dropped or otherwise mishandled. Takes a strong person using two hand to connect the average CCS1 cable in the winter. Tesla Supercharger cables and J3400 (NACS) wands are smaller and yes more elegant. Have you noticed manufacturers installing native J3400 (NACS) ports on their new vehicles? It is a thing, pretty big thing really.

Less expensive? Not in general. Depends on where you are charging, but often less expensive per kWh especially if using the Tesla "plan" pricing. You might have me here depending on where you are cross-shopping DC Fast Charging. The only other CCS1 options offering plug and charge are EVgo (Autocharge+), and Rivian Adventure Network (RAN).

Seriously appreciate your commentary. Have a good one!
The CCSI cables can get challenging in cold climates and basically a pain in the a** sometimes, it would have been nice if they were designed for human hands ? ?But thats what we’re stuck with)and I find the new EV Go Autochage + in my neighborhood quite awesome. Just my 2cents..

@SASSquatch

Thanks and right back at you!

I normally do not post anything really personal or emotional, however, like you and so many others these massive changes are hurting many people and if we are honest, people will die due to first, second, and even third order effects of DOGE actions.

I will stick to EVgo, RAN, and even EA as well.

Wishing you, your family, and colleagues the very best. It is easier said than done, but we really can only focus on what we can control and try to let the rest roll-off our backs.

Your post as well as others have really helped my sanity in this chaotic time.

Have a good one!
You are 100% correct that our nation and the people who rely on the services and agencies that DOGE is attempting to dismantle will ultimately suffer. All of us in the federal government are on pins and needles right now and someone who wasn't elected by the people or confirmed by our representatives has more power than any civilian in history. It is unconscionable.

We will get through this by supporting each other and by patriots who swore to defend the constitution standing up to tyranny, and by the courts wielding there constitutional authority and acting as the guardrails of democracy.

Meanwhile - if and when I need the SCN - you will better believe I will use it and you should consider that as well. Because Tesla was built with subsidies and loans from the very programs and loans that EM now wants to claw back and question for competitors to Tesla. Your tax dollars helped build out that network.

Everyone loved Musk before politics. Everyone loved Trump before politics. Seeing a trend? Meanwhile Nancy Pelosi makes $200k/year and is worth 220 million and nobody bats any eye. ?
Didn't have many thoughts on Musk before he went crazy other than he was a weird dude. I've always hated trump, even back in the late 80s when I was in college. Never been a fan of pompous entitled daddy boys.

Wait so 150 yr olds that were getting the social security I keep being told I won’t get is bad? Lol
From Krugman's post this morning:
"Well, as one commenter pointed out, the thing about 150-year-old Social Security beneficiaries may be another comical error. Apparently in COBOL — obsolete in the business world but still used in government — a missing date of birth is registered as 1875. Commenters on X and Threads say the same. So the only “fraud” here is the pretense that Musk’s child programmers have any idea what they’re doing."

And BTW there is an easy fix to make Social Security solvent for many many years to come. All we need to do is remove the cap on taxable earnings which is currently at about 176K.

Tesla supercharging network is the best in the country and for someone who takes multiple 900+ mile trips each way it's a necessity. Sure when I picked up my truck in Ohio and drove it to Florida there were may alternatives I "had" to use simple because my truck was unable to use Tesla's network. The cost and convenience factor using many were much greater than using Tesla with the monthly subscription. I sold my Rivian in December and went to a Tesla, regardless having the Tesla monthly subscription (when I had my Rivian) was a game changer and much more economical. Now what costed me $280 on a round trip costs me $160 driving 73-75, or $188 driving 77-80. Love EM / Trump or hate them, America has spoken.... Personally I am glad they are trimming all the BS our taxes are being spent on, but its upsetting to hear when real people like the OP are effected by it. God bless and hope things go better for you, everything happens for a reason and God will always provide.

Why is the answer always "tax more", not "spend less"?

So....I've never been to a BP station (okay, one time) since Deepwater Horizon either. So I do take some actions like that on principle.

But in this case VW (funding Rivian) has a much more muddied history than Tesla, and it's not even close. So does that imply avoiding VW, Audi, Porsche as well as Electrify America/Canada?

I guess we each choose our own battles, but Rivian doesn't exist without Tesla paving a way with EV's and a charging network. I don't follow the antics of the CEO's of Proctor & Gamble, Pfizer, GM, Ford or any other company. BTW, if you don't think these companies, much like big tobacco or big oil, aren't spending tens of millions of dollars a year on lobbying that you don't see beyond the glitzy ad buys that you do see you're just not looking. Media sensationalization is quite clearly negatively directed at Musk/Tesla because it drives rage clicks which in turn add up to page views which drive ad revenue. That sounds like a pretty dirty business model, so time to shut off all mainstream media as well?

Where does one draw a line, in all seriousness?

PS if you're thinking of Lucid, it's primarily owned and controlled by Saudi Arabia, so there's that to consider.

I wish I leased a Tesla Model S instead for my first EV. My Rivian is nice but I have other SUVs and despite being a pre-price hike purchase, I feel like I have something that is already obsolete. Too bad they didn't offer leasing back then because I'd happily hand it back in 1.5 years and probably get a Porsche or something else.

Was out on a weekend in New Jersey and desperate to charge but this one Tesla station wasn't compatible with the adapter and they had EVgo right next to it with all these idiots lined up for 2 stations and I had to drive out of my way to find something compatible. It was then that I really wish I had a Tesla but ultimately it was my fault for mismanaging my travel.

Without Tesla SC, I wouldn't even bother taking my truck on a trip because EA, EVgo etc... are the worst.

Every year, the top limit is adjusted based on the national average wage index. It indirectly compensates for inflation. The tax rate does not change.

SS has needed a fix for years but Congress sidesteps the issue. The options are limited - increase tax rate, lower benefits, or increase retirement age. None of that plays well with constituents so they do nothing.
