Can any of you rich folks order 2 of the A2Z Typhoon, and then break one open so we can see what's inside it?

Is it completely passive where its really just routing wires? Or is there any active electronic on it?

I have no problems using an adapter if it indeed is passive. Obviously I'd stick around while it charged the first time or two to see what kind of heat rise it would have.
They are not completely passive as for the A2Z adapter if you do not lock the Tesla plug in or unlock it it stops the charging. If you depress the latch locking it in the truck it stops charging. It has sensors to stop charging if the temp sensors reach there limit.

Other than that they are passive and have no communications built in.

I always thought they should charge for them....data too...but what do I know...

Just hope all the people waiting for their adapters don't cause more damage to Rivian if months pass by and they don't have them as quick as Rivian inferred would be the case.
I'm curious about what their agreement is with Tesla.

It seems odd that every company is giving the adapter away for free.

It's as Tesla is trying to control the onslaught by throttling the availability of the adapter, and by controlling when a manufacture can allow for it.

I don't think there is really any question that charging for the adapter is the route that car manufactures should have taken.

It ensures that only people who really want the adapter will get it thereby reducing waste.

It ensures that there isn't a glut of charger adapters.

I'm sure the people who get a third party adapter won't be opting out of Rivians to help other Rivian owners. They're going to go the free market route and they'll sell their Non-Rivian provided adapter when they get the Rivian provided one.

I believe that v1/v2 stations, while using the same plug style (not NACS), operate on a different comms protocol that is proprietary to Tesla. With the v3/v4 stations, Tesla moved to the same comms protocol as CCS1 and that's why NACS can work with CCS1/2. So until Tesla updates/modifies the older stations, they won't be available to NACS/CCS1 vehicles but Teslas are backwards compatible with them.
Tesla did not "move" to CCS comms. But, they did add CCS comms capability to V3/V4.

There are lots of people reviewing, talking to the companies, charging and testing them, measuring heat, interviewing engineers and execs at the adapter makers.
Look at the "state of charge" podcast on YouTube.

I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that both the Brattleboro, VT and West Lebanon, NH Supercharger stations have both V2 and V3s (I'm not sure if the other locations you mentioned are also a mix of V2 and V3s). I regularly explain to people about using the V3s for faster charging. Unless you know what to look for (thinner cable and A-D instead of just A/B stall numbers) it's hard to tell the difference.
Yeah I would park my 2016 X at the old ones (often the first nose-in stall) at West Lebanon because it couldn’t take advantage of v3 speeds anyway. And if I was in a charitable mood I would tell the people with newer cars to go charge on the other bank. I wonder if the v3 portion would actually work even if they’re not on the map. It would be nice because that setup (with parking spaces on either side of the chargers) is perfect for EVs like Rivians with charge ports on the opposite corners from Teslas.

I hadn’t realized it but the other locations I mentioned are all still v2s, though they’re in key spots like the Hooksett and Berlin service areas.

I received a pop up message within my R1S stating the Tesla Network was available (or something like that). I did not capture the first popup but this was the second that showed after acknowledging the first. I didn’t see any Tesla chargers on my map yet though.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Rivian will give free adapters to owners. We are an impatient bunch and would like it ASAP.

How do I get a Rivian-approved NACS DC adapter?
We’re offering a free NACS DC adapter to all Rivian owners in the US and Canada to enable charging at over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America.

We’ll email all existing Rivian owners in early April with instructions on how to opt-in to receive an adapter*. Once you’ve confirmed your interest, we’ll follow up to confirm your mailing address when your adapter is ready to be shipped.

Adapters will begin shipping in April, and we’ll prioritize our longest-standing owners for earliest fulfillment.

*For those taking delivery after in April and beyond, we’ll contact you separately about getting your adapter

I hear you. I'm particularly bummed about Northern New Mexico, Northern AZ, Southern UT, but this is a solid improvement, nonetheless (Only compatible Tesla shown, inc MD):

Northern Arizona, except for the northeast corner, has a lot of CCS chargers. I 40 is well covered and Pilot is added a couple more on that route. There are open RAN sites in Kingman, Flagstaff and Holbrook.

You're right about I-40 for sure, it was a walk in the park last month and just got better. But I'm interested in the territory above that, some of which is cut off by a little thing called the Grand Canyon. I was hopeful for Page, AZ, for example. But I now realize those are older units.

I do think there's something planned to open this year in Kayenta, and that will be absolutely fantastic.

See it now. I misunderstood the network option. I thought if it is blacked out it’s hidden but it appears to work the opposite way. I know theres a Tesla charger around the corner from me however its not showing up.

The one not showing up probably is a V2 supercharger and will never be available to CCS cars until they are upgraded.
