Maps are not omniscient and my Rivian satellite maps are seven years out of date.

I often find milage instructions useful. Just because you do not, is there a reason you want the rest of the owners to be denied the option? You should be be offered the option to turn it off.

This local shopping center was completed in 2017. My map version shows dirt.

Some nice updates. Nothing Earth shattering but still nice updates.
That said, where are our subscription services? I’d like Rivian to reduce the cash hemoraging and they have to be paying for everyone’s ATT connection, at a minimum. Let’s get that revenue source moving guys.

<obligatory> Oh, and still no CarPlay, Google Maps, Apple Music, Waze…. ? </obligatory>
There’s not subscription for “premium connectivity” because there are no services that justify it yet. It would be a bad customer service move and potentially unlawful for them to just institute a fee for the existing LTE connection which is necessary for vehicle operations. They can (and should) do it (similar to Tesla) when there are services such as streaming entertainment, games or other improvements that require a massive increase in data usage…

I’m happy with this. But, before next winter I’d really like the option to move the heated steering wheel button in place of one of the defroster buttons that I’ve never used.

They slipped in a change to defroster/defogger operation two OTAs ago that has been terrible here in the humid south. It doesn’t run the compressor as much meaning it can’t control humidity in the vehicle, which was no problem for the past 18 months. As a result i’ll be driving along in humid conditions, the system will kill the compressor, humidity shoots up in the truck and all windows fog over. Since we have so few actual controls for the climate control the only fix is to dramatically lower the temp setting to force the AC on. Hoping that item in this update corrects that.
I found if you toggle on the defroster and let it run 20 seconds, it cleans the windows up and you can turn the defrost off again.

It's quite freeing isn't it?
Other than tire rotations, I never even really look at it....that and to be accurate when I make forum posts that reference how many miles I have on mine if relevant.

If they do make it avail on IP, I hope they give us option not to display it.

Software Update 2024.07
Navigation Improvements To Ease Your Travels
We’ve improved navigation performance and usability on the center display:

  • Improved route selection and estimated time of arrival (ETA).
  • Faster rerouting guidance when the vehicle diverges from the current route.
  • Different route line colors to clearly indicate the legs of a route.
I can't see that anyone else seems to be excited about this but me, but I'm looking forward to this.

It's a bit geeky, but with a multi-leg drive plan I'd like to see rivian adopt the aviation standard color for the active leg, which is magenta (sort of purple). Subsequent but inactive legs are in white.

Some aviation navigators (e.g. Avidyne) will have the active leg in magenta, the next planned leg in a magenta/white "candy cane," and later legs in white.

My understanding of the choice of magenta is that it was originally chosen for some features on paper charts because of its easy readability under all light conditions, including dim red cockpits at night. Anachronistic for an LCD screen, but still kinda cool IMHO.

Yeah, I found that to not work well either since you still have the compressor issue. Still had to run the temp way down to force the compressor on. Irritating since it wasn’t an issue for 18 months. Hopefully my service visit last week will address it though.

I want it ALL, NOW!!!
It's the little things:
Glitchy b/u camera, overhead lights, nav rendering, empty Spotify home screen. Minor issues but noticeable.
Saving minor seat adjustments! I won't have to choose between taking off thick jacket and readjusting the seat to make one of 4 inevitable quick runs to the hardware store for whatever project. Measurable cranial core temperature reduction is certain.
The only peeve I can think of that I don't see addressed is the cancel kneel button covering the garage door button when you shift to park. Had to retrain myself to close the gd before shifting to park. And why is there a 45 second delay between shifting to park and unlocking the doors? I know it's about 3 seconds but it might as well be 45 since I almost never pull the handle just once. That's 2 peeves.

Anyone know a possible approximate ETA of SiriusXM that was announced?

This is a nice update. I've been experiencing several things on this list!

I feel monthly release is just too much and now don’t really required anymore specially when they are bleeding money. They should really move to quarterly release with some significant updates…

And how, exactly, would this prevent them from 'bleeding money'?

Yes, you can sell the car before it is finished!

I see a lot of rookie bugs fixed here, introduced presumably by cheap, junior developers. I don't really want that kind of code in my car.
Rivian should have hired you to write all the code; although they might not have been able to afford someone of your caliber.

Rivian clearly had and has a feature set that they want the vehicles to have. They also know that things need improvement in some areas. From a marketing viewpoint, this is vital. The EV sales battleground is and will be software. How many people here post "My Telsa can do this, why can't my Rivian?" Rivian has no choice if they want to remain competetive. Extending the timeframe saves no money, unless you are really saying they should not introduce any more new features or fullfill their feature set.

Shifting to quarterly release increases complexity. More new features get released at one time. If there are any bugs in it, users have to wait 3 months for it to be fixed. That's the old school methodology of development. Based on what we have seen, IMO it looks like Rivian is using an Agile software development methodology called Scrum, and each release is a Sprint. Sprints are weeks or a month, not 3 months.

After doing about 8 hours of highway driving this weekend in the mountains, I'd really like to see an option buried in a menu somewhere to disable the auto slowdown in corners thing. It's unbelievably annoying, slows down for corners when unnecessary, and slows down way too much.

That said, highway assist while in stop and go traffic for 2 hours creeping along at 0-10 mph is amazing. And one of the recent updates massively improved the resume HWA on lane change feature. In December/January it did this weird thing where it wanted to shoot over to one of the lane lines when it resumed, but now it's really solid.

I would love to see different themes like and aviation theme, It would be neat to have a PFD which displayed Attitude, heading, and ground speed. I also like magenta as the current leg. A lot of data can be displayed in a relatively small space.
