Actual data is more helpful than "it looks the same size"You sound extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Good luck in your endeavors.

Is R2 steer by wire? Why wouldn’t they introduce with R1 before R2?Seems like a good fit. I'm no engineer, but if the R2 includes steer by wire wouldn't it make it somewhat easier to manufacture left/ right side vehicles?
I have no idea if it will be or not. We know next to nothing about it outside of what RJ has revealed so far. Seeing this thread just got me to thinking about complexities of selling both in the US and EU. And I'm not smart enough to understand if using steer by wire would even save them any $ vs. traditional. ?‍Is R2 steer by wire? Why wouldn’t they introduce with R1 before R2?
My perspective - while the box length may be similar on the R1T and Maverick, the Maverick is a smaller vehicle than the Ranger (according to Ford's website), and I've been in a Ranger... it is nowhere near the interior size of my R1T. Neither does a Tacoma (although I haven't been in the most recent generation, so I'll add that caveat).I keep seeing people mention an R2T and Maverick in the same sentence and it confuses me. The R1T is already the size of a Maverick, at least my buddy's Maverick (Hybrid). Several coworkers have Tacoma's and Colorado's which are physically a bit larger. Mavericks aren't well represented in my area, so what am I missing?
Seems to me the news is that details about European availability are migrating out of the obscurity of shareholder letters and S-1 filings to a wider media audience.I don't know why this is news? This is what Rivian has been saying for many years - it's even in the S-1 filing from 2.5 years ago. And it has certainly been part of every mention of R2 since at least the June 2022 shareholder letter. I don't know why it needs "confirmation" that Rivian is taking this strategy. Unless some people just aren't paying attention.
Specifically, the R1 is targeted towards the NA market, while the next platform, R2 has always been explicitly designed to be exportable to the Western European and UK markets. The Asian markets are planned to come after that. And they have been using the EDV as a stepping stone to figure out regulatory compliance in the European and UK markets. Specifically with things like GDPR compliance, which is a huge issue for connected vehicles.
If anything, I would say this "confirms" that Rivian is still on-track with everything we know about its long range business strategy. This is not a change or new information about the R2, this is what they've been working on all along.
+1 for the subjective impression that the R1T is roomier than the Ranger and Tacoma. Which jives with the published interior dimensions. My perspective - while the box length may be similar on the R1T and Maverick, the Maverick is a smaller vehicle than the Ranger (according to Ford's website), and I've been in a Ranger... it is nowhere near the interior size of my R1T. I do think Rivian needs a cheaper pick-up truck. Whether that is in the form of a reduced feature "R1T" or a slightly smaller footprint based on the R2...
India will be low down the list since it is a very small market for EVs and expensive vehicles. Tesla do very poorly there.Brining R2 to EU is good but a real marketshare step increase is sending R2 to China, then onto India. Probably need R3 compact SUV/truck though...
Any Tesla sales in India are gray market.India will be low down the list since it is a very small market for EVs and expensive vehicles. Tesla do very poorly there.
