One thing of note on Kyles 70MPH range test is that he starts with a preconditioned cabin and warm battery having just been fast charged to 100% this should take a good chunk of cool ambient temperature out of the equation except the fact that cold air is slightly denser increasing drag.
I would expect the CT in this config to only do maybe 15-20 more miles at 68-70 degrees ambient.

Side note... lots of hate on Out of Spec Kyle. I like his videos and think he is the coolest kind of nerd. He seems to acknowledge what his videos are and aren't but is having fun and more successful than most reviewers. Can't please everyone al the time I guess.

Aside from the CT astonishing acceleration and 48v low volt system (which may prove problematic) I'm unimpressed.
I personally appreciate his nerd level/length videos. I learned a great deal about my R1T with respect to charging nuances, and driving characteristics from his videos before I even sat in the vehicle.

As painful as it may be for some (my wife especially) there is a great deal for the laymen that's new to EV's, and the seasoned veteran, that's been forced to rely on a 120v outlet because the infrastructure just wasn't there yet, within his videos.

As an @OutofSpecKyle apologist, the hours long livestreams are just raw day of footage prior to the (still lengthy) cut down version that comes out a few days later.

Definitely a design "issue" lol.. there. They're going to have to address that by putting a squirter on it and or relocating the rear facing cam because without a working rear view mirror that blurry mess image they have when raining is very unsafe.

Other design issues too, but if nothing else, Tesla has been very responsive to major issues in the past with quick design changes when needed.
Wait, what? I wouldn't say that at all. The rear camera thing has been an issue on every one of their cars for a decade. Also, lack of ventilation for rear facing seats in the Model S comes to mind regarding an issue that was never addressed. Unless you consider removing the option the way to address. I could name several things that Tesla never improved. And even more that had their fixes delayed substantially.

I can't imagine Tesla ignoring this one because it's a critical safety issue in the CT due to the fact that the tonneau completely covers the rear cabin window and 100% obscures the physical rear view mirror. Couple that with the huge blind spots the "sails" on the bed sides create and you have a really poor visibility situation for changing lanes,etc.. especially in dark, rainy conditions.

Tesla must also be poor at packaging. Compared to the R1T the CT has fewer motors, a smaller battery, less wiring, less aero, no gear tunnel, no place for a spare, and now less range.

but you can outsteer a go-kart on a small track at relatively low speeds!

Even with the 21s when I was driving down to pick up my camper last year I didn’t regularly see >2mi/kWh. I don’t think I have a lead foot but our experience seems to be quite different. ?‍♂
2.46 mi/kWh over the 14k miles I’ve driven on 21s, mostly around town with several long (1000 mi) road trips in conserve. Mid-Atlantic. Just a datapoint.

Don't forget the tonneau blocks that physical view out the back of the truck.

Yeah your 21 efficiency appears to be about what I would have expected, but you can see the efficiency I got driving down the So Cal in my truck (leg by leg), I posted the results in this thread. The roof rack may have had a small impact but I wouldn't expect 20%, I admit I was surprised I didn't get better efficiency. I must just drive fast.

It's hilarious that Tesla can't get efficiency better than an R1T despite looking significantly uglier. I thought efficiency was a big part of the rationale for the whack job design.
The big part of the CT design started with Elon’s grade school fever dream car drawings in 4th grade.

Imagine being one of the engineers who has to make a decent vehicle out of that heap because Elon's child said he thought it should look like "the future."

I picked up my second R1T Max Pack 3X,XXX VIN, 21" Tires, on the 27th of December and took it to FL over the NYE. Our first Rivian is 5,XXX VIN with 20AT tires. As the video says, the upgrade value is questionable. Unless Rivian rushed the car to the market with the Max Pack, it will need to add more range/efficiency in the future via OTA.

The first image is at 75mph and 10% burn, and the second one is at 80mph and 10%. Given what OutofSpec showed as a 147kWh battery pack, you can do the math on the highway.

Also, on the way back, we went from 100% down to a dashed line of 0%, and the trip computer stated 134 kWh used. So where did the rest go?

If you are getting the Max pack based on old pricing, why not? If you are paying 10K for it now, I would wait for more testing and OTAs.

The pack is a new chemistry and probably needs more balancing to get it into the right groove. The temp on it is significantly higher compared to the old Large Pack.

My R1T with AT tires has been averaging around 1.9 mi/WH at highway speed during winter ( 30-50 deg) here in Colorado. That translates to sub 250 miles( assuming 130 usable kWh pack).
Kyle got 2.1 with CT which is not bad. Rivian has a bigger battery pack while CT has a heat pump. My R1T got 1.6mi/wh driving up to MTN and back in cold weather ( 2-20 deg) It sat in a cold parking lot for 5 hrs. Love to see extreme cold weather range testing with CT. I usually take model X when I take a trip to Vail. Its efficiency only drops about 15 % in very cold weather. Tesla’s Supercharging network also gives me a peace of mind. Rumor has it that Rivian is working on its version of heat pump. A bigger batter pack with better thermal management should give Rivian range advantage over CT.
