CT is not doing well in their tests. These are after they got it back from service because it completely bricked on them yesterday

This is a bigger deal since... You know... You can't see out the back without the camera

5 hours Kyle?

It was just a live feed that got saved. He does that with a lot of the range tests and then trims it down for the regular video.

Do people here really think that 2.05 mi/kWh on 35" AT tires is a bad efficiency?

Its not ground breaking but ask anyone who is running 35" AT tires on any R1T, I bet they don't average 2 mi/kWh.
It's not great compared to the CT stated range. Which is why people go "oof" at it.

It's not that I dislike Kyle or fault him for making a living. My disappointment is in society generally...That people will watch a 5 hour livestream of what should be a 30 minute video hurts my brain.:headbang:
I'll take people consuming long form content over having the inability to focus on anything for more than a tik tok.

Thread takeaways. CT range is lower than advertised, but not atrocious. That test had it averaging around 2.0 miles / kw. This is the same as Rivian's own efficiency benchmark.

So it has similar efficiency and worse range. We can debate how much aero drag, motor engineering, and wheel size influence that figure, but that discussion may be moot if both trucks have similar efficiency.

I agree that the worse range figure is likely due to 122 vs 135kw battery. In a range test where both vehicles have the same constant efficiency, the CT should have 26 less miles due to it's smaller battery. Would love to see someone prove this out with a range test of both vehicles, side-by-side! Where is Kyle?

From an engineering perspective, I am happy that the Rivian team was able to produce a truck that equals or beats the CT at a lower price. Congrats! I think the R1 owners have the better product.

But, I'd wager economies of scale mean that Tesla can produce those CTs much cheaper.
It's not the same as the Rivian's, 2.0 mi/kwh is just the round number they put on the efficiency meter.

It's 122 vs 131 usable FWIW

Well then you can assume the same truck on 35" ATs would fair worse. FWIW I always averaged in the 1.8 range before the camper, more like 1.6 these days and even less with my Nokian winter tires.
That's a fair bit lower than what I've gotten personally...
My lifetime average is over 2 mi/kwh on both our R1T and R1S. This summer my R1T average was ~2.4 mi/kwh for both.

On my OEM ATs 34" tires I've averaged 2 mi/kwh or more on road trips with typical speeds between 77 and 85 mph.

On my Nokian LT3s it's been a bit less. On my trip between Seattle and Boise over Thanksgiving I averaged 1.85 mi/kwh going those speeds for the majority of the drive each way.

Even with the 21s when I was driving down to pick up my camper last year I didn’t regularly see >2mi/kWh. I don’t think I have a lead foot but our experience seems to be quite different. ?‍♂

It is. There's a lot of variance.

I appreciate the fact when a Tesla Stan or fanboi says something about a Tesla is "interesting", I know it to mean "unacceptable" to a normal person. Gotta stay in space-Karen's good graces.

Nevermind - I just double-checked and it shows it in mileage - but you can see it for every charging stop. It is annoying that you can't just change it all to % and be done with it.

My approach to road trips has been to plan and research stops via ABRP/Plugshare. Then I just take it one stop at a time in the Rivian route planning. I consider when coming up on the next charging stop whether I could make it to the next - and go from there. It's generally pretty conservative - the only time I've found it not conservative is with dropping temperatures as the sun sets. I look for a buffer of 15 miles when deciding whether to stop or continue on.
When you arrive at the fast charger it will display the desired target charging SoC in percent before you start the charge. I do not understand why they continue to display miles in the trip planner and on the nav. My Hummer and my Mach E always provide estimated battery % on the nav display and in the trip planner.

When I first saw that the rear camera got messed up in the rain I thought so what my Rivian's does too, then I remembered you cannot see out of the back at all without the camera on the cybertruck and then it was a cringe.

My initial thoughts on the CT keep getting proven right.

If you are looking for an EV Truck ... If you need a day to day/weekend warrior (home depot runs) or an adventure vehicle, the Rivian is the best choice. If you need a true work truck, the Lightning is the best choice. If you need to do heavy duty work or lots of towing .. just get an ICE truck. There really isn't a scenario that the CT is best at.
You get the CT because you get shot at with handgun while using your truck!

Definitely a design "issue" lol.. there. They're going to have to address that by putting a squirter on it and or relocating the rear facing cam because without a working rear view mirror that blurry mess image they have when raining is very unsafe.

Other design issues too, but if nothing else, Tesla has been very responsive to major issues in the past with quick design changes when needed.

My take away is the Cybertruck isn't some miracle in efficiency (as expected). It likely has very similar efficiency numbers as the R1T and the Lightning. It has a slightly smaller battery pack, so it will go 10-20 miles less under similar conditions.

Charging speeds are similar to other trucks, and cost is about the same. No real advantages over the competition, and certainly not a game changer for EV trucks. Most ICE truck owners who are skeptical of electric trucks, are still going to hold off until battery technology improves, and costs become more reasonable.

It's a truck for Tesla fans, and people who want to be seen in a new shiny object.
