Average Rivian Insurance in California

Hi - Can folks in Cali share some avg amount they are paying for insuring Rivian? My last premium has increased by 25% without any change in coverage and Rivian provided insurance is almost 80% expensive what I already have.

Which is too goddamned high. I have zero accidents, zero tickets, and am old enough to not be a risk while being nowhere near old enough to be a risk.

Rivian’s nationwide offered me $1800 / 6 months while I was paying $950/ 6 months using GEICO…it’s such a ridiculously high amount…

Clean record, no tickets, no accidents. $3100 a year in SoCal with Rivian insurance. Our tesla with tesla insurance is a little cheaper.

I expected mine at the 6 month renewal to go up, it did not, my 12 month renewal is next month, surely it will go up then, currently at 660 for 6 months is less than my 2016 Model S.

State Farm, been with them for 37 years.

Was the increase only for your Rivian or was it for all of your vehicles? Insurance rates have taken a step increase upwards across the country and across all carriers within the past 6 months because of the record number of claims due to natural disasters etc. across the country.

My insurance, on ALL my vehicles, also went up 25% recently. But I'm still paying way less than any of the above posts ... not in CA though so we really can't compare numbers ...

This comparison of just cost is really meaningless unless we also compare deductibles. If you go into the configurator and change your deductible, it significantly impacts your premium.

This subject is so hard to compare apples to apples because so many variables.

In my case, we pay $480/6 month or $960/yr with full coverage, including max liability coverage. The cost just went up at our last renewal from ~$400/6 month. Our deductible for collision is $1,000 and comp is $500.

The thing is, we have 5 vehicles on the policy, our home, good driver and safety equipment discounts, and one more vehicle than the total number of drivers in the household. R1S is the spare vehicle.

All that said we are insured through Costco and they no longer are writing new auto policy in CA.

Your age and zip code matters too.

So, the insurance cost is one of those that you really can't do much about...

That’s what happens when you buy insurance from a Democratic insurance company owned by George Soros. I ditched them and went with AAA.

I think people should talk to their agents about the deductibles. When I changed to 2k deductible 6 years ago we had 3 vehicles, I was savings 1200 a year between the 3 vehicles so after 2 years of no claims I would be ahead of the game. I have not talked to my agent recently but if the 1200 is still accurate over the 6 years it is 7200 saved.
