Rivian will hit profitability by end of 2024.put into the other way, this is saying that Rivian will lose money for a very long time. Good deal for us, bad deal for manufacture.
I love everything about the design, but that 0-60 time is a non starter at the price.Polestar just released pricing and specs. https://www.polestar.com/us/polestar-3/
Polestar 3
Vehicle price starting at: $83,900
Range¹ ²:Up to 270 miles (EPA)
0 – 60 mph:4.6 sec
Smaller, slower, less range, no off road, seats 5, but looks like only 4 in comfort.
I was surprised that it is this much as Polestars had been very reasonably priced in their other mainstream models. Looks great I will give it that, but the price is higher than a dual motor Max pack once you configure them equally, and the Dual with Max beats it in every category.
It looks like next year's Tesla, available in fifty shades of gray.color options Grey, Grey, less Grey, more Grey.

-Much more “luxe”?? In what sense? Have you seen this vehicle in person? There is nothing much more luxe than the R1S. I would argue the interior materials of the R1S are better than the Polestar, which is very basic and has a center console that is predominantly glossy black plastic (everyone’s favorite).Counterpoint:
- The Polestar is a GREAT looking SUV, quite a bit sportier than the R1S
- The Polestar is plenty fast, thank you
- It has the must-haves - wide performance tires, active air suspension, torque vectoring, huge brakes, etc.
- Polestar is smaller in a good way if you aren't looking for a three-row SUV
- Much more "Luxe" interior than the R1S
- Expensive, but still priced "in range" for these premium cars
I am a fan of both cars, by the way, and both go on my list of "Very Appealing EVs"
And, by the way, I voted with my dollars by buying a Taycan GTS and a Rivian R1S, the latter not yet delivered. Though if I didn't have the early-bird Rivian pricing and binding purchase agreement, that R1S would have become either a Polestar 3 or a Macan EV.
It looks compelling, but the interior is pretty cheap. Prepare yourself.I have a deposit on a Volvo EX 30. Around $35,000! A real Volvo.
I would never consider Rivians interior to be “luxe”. It’s fine, it’s nice, but nothing is upscale. Nappa leather is more luxe than anything Rivian has, period. It’s not subjective-Much more “luxe”?? I absolutely agree. I just don't get all these cross overs that have very little off-road capability. They just seem like raised station wagons to me. Im not commenting on the look but the purpose/functionality. Not my cup of tea.Don’t forget with the R1S you get off-road and towing capabilities, active suspension, better performance, etc. It’s kind of an apple to oranges comparison, imo.
Perhaps Rivian does a la Defender 110 and 90 with the R1 and R2. Both great cars but the 90 was so much more fun. I love the R1S and hope Rivian does something just as special with the R2S.Meh, unimpressive 5 seat Chinese SUV. Rivian can shrug this off. Maybe a reason to bring back a 5 seat R1S for a few thousand lower in 2025.
So this is an image of the press vehicle “Napa leather” on the polestar 3 (out of spec review) that “luxe” leather is a $5k add on option and does not look like it’s wearing well. I’ve never seen any Rivians even with 20k + miles look like that. I have no hate for polestar, design looks nice, it’s just majorly over priced for what it offers.I would never consider Rivians interior to be “luxe”. It’s fine, it’s nice, but nothing is upscale.
