I see it as a completely difference class of SUV.

It's not really an off-road SUV and its seats less people.

It's likely a bit more refined with a better ride quality, and I bet the driver assistance works well. The passive locking/unlocking is likely way more refined as well. It's likely also going to have Apple Carplay so the nav won't be so sucky.

I'm certainly going to look into it as a possible future vehicle after my R1T.

One huge negative I see is they offer the Pilot Pack with Lidar, but it doesn't really tell you what extra functionality you get with it.

Polestar just released pricing and specs. https://www.polestar.com/us/polestar-3/

Polestar 3
Vehicle price starting at: $83,900

Range¹ ²:Up to 270 miles (EPA)
0 – 60 mph:4.6 sec

Smaller, slower, less range, no off road, seats 5, but looks like only 4 in comfort.

I was surprised that it is this much as Polestars had been very reasonably priced in their other mainstream models. Looks great I will give it that, but the price is higher than a dual motor Max pack once you configure them equally, and the Dual with Max beats it in every category.
I think they did a good job capturing the "blend in every other compact SUV" look. I'm not saying that's bad, in fact I like it.
That price, though, makes no sense to me at all. I don't know who would buy it at that price. The R1S beats it in every category. And if they wanted to go smaller, a Mach-e would seem to be a better choice.
I am looking forward to the R2 coming available in a couple years and hope that comes in as a more competitive offering than this P3.

In all the battery electric vehicles I've ever driven, the suspension in the Polestar 2 was second only to the Taycan imo. Lightyears ahead of the rest of the competition for sporty refined driving characteristics (including the R1.) The audio system was also leaps and bounds nicer than the one in my R1T, the navigation was native Google Maps, it had more air bags and safety features owing to Volvo's unparalleled focus on safety, and the Polestar 3 will come out of the box with better ADAS systems than Rivian's (slightly embarassing) Driver+ with an option for actual Lidar and the promise of real Level 3 with driver monitoring cameras that actually work.

Overall I think the Polestar 3 is not very pretty, but if it looked better I would absolutely shop it at this price based on my experience with the Polestar 2. Polestar makes fantastic cars and I genuinely miss how good the sound system was and how planted and refined the suspension felt.

People need to stop listing pre-hike prices for Rivian as comparisons too. The dual motor max pack does not cost less than $84k at current prices. Dual motor large pack starts at $84k, the same price as the Polestar 3.

Saw the polestar 3 in person, had a deposit down for it. After seeing it in person I asked for my deposit back. It’s way over priced considering interior materials, comfort, and specs.

This one, that one and the other one.

Not a bad looking vehicle. LOVE the vertical screen. So much easier to see and use based on my prior Model S experience. Don't understand these horizontal layouts. Ford also gets it right with the Lightning.

Dead on arrival. No doubt about it. Puts on PSNY vs RIVN and Wall Street agrees. Go look at the 6 month chart.

Are they pulling an April fools joke on us with their $83,900 pricing and molasses specs.

Just get the dual motor 7 seater Rivian for $78,000 and save $11,900 dollars compared to the 5 seater Polestar 3 while getting a more capable / faster vehicle. This doesn't even include the $3,750 tax credit if you qualify.

You can easily add large battery pack $6,000 or performance upgrade $5,000 to the Rivian to get even more range than the long range Poopstar 3 while saving money for a more capable vehicle. Difference of $84,000 for a faster longer range Rivian versus $89,900 for the slower shorter range PoOp$t@R 3.

If you're willing to spend the $89,000, Rivian will be faster and have more range with the performance long range option.

This is a no brainer to go with Rivian. Time to load up on more RIVN shares.

R2 will crush the competition easily when the R1 is already doing it today.

Meh, unimpressive 5 seat Chinese SUV. Rivian can shrug this off. Maybe a reason to bring back a 5 seat R1S for a few thousand lower in 2025.

Definitely different vehicles but as an owner of both a Rivian and a polestar I have found way more value in the polestar. Go look at a 3 in the spaces that have them, very nice vehicles and IMO much more attractive.

The Volvo equivalent is being made in South Carolina FWIW.
Volvo/ Polestar is owned by Geely, whose factory is in China. Unless there is something new happening? This is still on the Polestar website:

The Polestar Production Centre is located in Chengdu, China. Designed with both sustainability and the brand ethos in mind, the centre is a manufacturing plant and a physical manifestation of the Polestar brand.
I didn’t mean it as a negative, btw. Just a matter of fact.

Did you seriously say “Poopstar”? Holy cow this forum sometimes. What if I told you the Polestar would allow you to save even more money on gas? You like that right? “LMFAO” as you said 50 times in that post.

Well reviews in California from owners has not been positive. Apparently customer service is non existent and Volvo dealerships that are supposed to service Polestar vehicles have turned owners away. Apparently only polestar can coordinate service with Volvo and getting ahold of them to coordinate service is challenging even for recalls. That’s frightening for a near $100k vehicle (polestar 3). Even with some issues that pop up with Rivian being a new company at the very least someone picks up the phone when I call customer service and they have their own service centers, unlike polestar.

My configuration for the polestar 3 came out to $96k, it was slower, with less range, less features than my Rivian and even our Tesla model Y performance. Their pricing makes no sense. They’re not in the same realm as the bmw iX or Merc EQE suv in terms of specs, trims, interior quality.. definitely shouldn’t be priced similarly. IMO it should be priced $20k lower than it currently is.
