R2 is designed/created to be profitable from the start.

0 – 60 mph:4.6 sec

Smaller, slower, less range, no off road, seats 5, but looks like only 4 in comfort.

I was surprised that it is this much as Polestars had been very reasonably priced in their other mainstream models. Looks great I will give it that, but the price is higher than a dual motor Max pack once you configure them equally, and the Dual with Max beats it in every category.
I love everything about the design, but that 0-60 time is a non starter at the price.

And, by the way, I voted with my dollars by buying a Taycan GTS and a Rivian R1S, the latter not yet delivered. Though if I didn't have the early-bird Rivian pricing and abinding purchase agreement, that R1S might have become a Polestar 3 or a Macan EV.

-Much more “luxe”?? In what sense? Have you seen this vehicle in person? There is nothing much more luxe than the R1S. I would argue the interior materials of the R1S are better than the Polestar, which is very basic and has a center console that is predominantly glossy black plastic (everyone’s favorite).

-Expensive but still priced in range of other luxury cars- in what sense? Lexus RZ is $65k, arguable better interior materials and better built (Japan vs China for automobiles). Comparing it to the likes of the Mercedes EQE and BMW iX doesn’t make sense because those brands have decades of credibility, the interior materials and build are notches above the polestar as well (having seen the vehicle in person). Reason Rivian R1S can get away with charging as much as BMW and Mercedes is because the range, performance, and off road tech is beyond what those vehicle offer. What does the polestar 3 offer? Worse range, worse performance, a quite simple interior with alcantara?

I’m curious how the Polestar 3’s LiDAR shakes out in real world use. It may eliminate phantom braking and make for a killer ADAS. The car will also feature a HUD with turn by turn directions as well as Dolby Atmos. Lots of gadget options available on this one.

I would never consider Rivians interior to be “luxe”. It’s fine, it’s nice, but nothing is upscale. Nappa leather is more luxe than anything Rivian has, period. It’s not subjective

Don’t forget with the R1S you get off-road and towing capabilities, active suspension, better performance, etc. It’s kind of an apple to oranges comparison, imo.
I absolutely agree. I just don't get all these cross overs that have very little off-road capability. They just seem like raised station wagons to me. Im not commenting on the look but the purpose/functionality. Not my cup of tea.

Meh, unimpressive 5 seat Chinese SUV. Rivian can shrug this off. Maybe a reason to bring back a 5 seat R1S for a few thousand lower in 2025.
Perhaps Rivian does a la Defender 110 and 90 with the R1 and R2. Both great cars but the 90 was so much more fun. I love the R1S and hope Rivian does something just as special with the R2S.

I don't understand all of the distaste on here for Polestar. I get it's not an off-road SUV, but considering we are all buying trucks/SUVs from a new EV startup, it seems like most of you would appreciate what they are doing.

They started in 1996 as a Swedish Touring Car racing team. They eventually moved on to making performance versions of Volvo cars that were sold at Volvo dealers as a Polestar Model. Similar to AMG and BMW M. Only recently did Volvo spin them off as a separate brand with independent models. So they arguably have an established history as part of Volvo. They also have a long history of making performance vehicles and race cars.

Their style isn't for everyone, but compared to all of the boring EVs hitting the market at least they are doing something different and exciting. It doesn't look like another egg shaped turd. I love my Mercedes EQS SUV, but damn it looks boring as hell. I would gladly take Polestar styling over just about any other EV on the market.

So this is an image of the press vehicle “Napa leather” on the polestar 3 (out of spec review) that “luxe” leather is a $5k add on option and does not look like it’s wearing well. I’ve never seen any Rivians even with 20k + miles look like that. I have no hate for polestar, design looks nice, it’s just majorly over priced for what it offers.
