Polestar just released pricing and specs. https://www.polestar.com/us/polestar-3/

Polestar 3
Vehicle price starting at: $83,900

Range¹ ²:Up to 270 miles (EPA)
0 – 60 mph:4.6 sec

Smaller, slower, less range, no off road, seats 5, but looks like only 4 in comfort.

I was surprised that it is this much as Polestars had been very reasonably priced in their other mainstream models. Looks great I will give it that, but the price is higher than a dual motor Max pack once you configure them equally, and the Dual with Max beats it in every category.

Definitely a nice looking SUV. As you said, it seems to fall short when you compare it to an R1S at similar price.

I love the look of the Polestar lineup. Pricing isn't there for me, but they've done a great job.

I'm looking through the configurator, but man....0-60 time only goes from a 4.9 to a 4.6 when you add the "Performance Pack". Not very much. :(

Dual motor / standard battery R1S is pretty much the same range/performance specs. But R1S is $6K cheaper. Looks is subjective so let's call it a tie. But the fact you get a 3rd row and way more cargo, the R1S is a clear winner.

Hasn't this configurator been live for about a year? I don't think it's new, but they did lower pricing a bit. I think it used to be $100K for the fully loaded PPP version.

How is this vehicle compelling in today’s EV landscape?
Established MFG with it being Volvo in all but name. Minimal wait times. Smaller, and uses less KW. It might be a compelling option for people that do not do any off roading and want something smaller with zero risk.

Don’t forget with the R1S you get off-road and towing capabilities, active suspension, better performance, etc. It’s kind of an apple to oranges comparison, imo.

But, there are so many similar spec EVs that are significantly cheaper… model Y, Ioniq 5, etc.

Sure, the Polestar 3 as a vehicle is compelling, but at that price point? I don’t think so. And then if you look at others at that price point, then the vehicle itself becomes less desirable.

Another hatchback/station wagon "SUV." Can't wait to see Rivian's R2.
I was reading that MotorTrend typically goes by how the manufacturer labels their vehicle. In other words, if VW decided their next GTI is an SUV, then MT will evaluate it as such. Of course it may not end up qualifying as a finalist, but it still seem disingenious.

Polestar 3 was announced and introduced almost exactly a year ago - October 12, 2022.

https://investors.polestar.com/news-releases/news-release-details/polestar-lists-successfully-nasdaq

I had a reservation for one as they were supposed to be available in Q4 2023. Needless to say, they are not available and won't be for nearly another year due to "software issues" on this and the Volvo EX90 which are twins. I cancelled my Polestar 3 reservation.

Meanwhile, prices have slid down for midsized electric SUV's so I'd say these are a bit high and the vehicle remains elusive. Maybe they ship mid/late next year. Maybe not.

I previously owned a Polestar 2, which was a fun little car. A much better car than a Tesla, but not as good a gadget as the software is nowhere near as refined but the driving position, handling, braking were all far superior. Downside is they depreciate...hard. I'd expect the same for the Polestar 3 so unless Polestar (Geely) is subsidizing the leases I wouldn't expect attractive lease terms.

It looks much more like a crossover. It's competing with the Model Y market that Tesla is after; not really the R1S market that Rivian is after.
