For those with the R1T you can purchase a sun shade that has a silver top side so it reflects most of the sunlight that comes through the glass roof vs regular sun shades that are black on both sides. I have the Hansshow shade below in my R1T and it really helps to keep the cab tolerable.

The important point here is that Florida is barely suitable for human habitation. It is probably time to abandon it to the invasive pythons and iguanas.
Don’t worry, given Florida’s exemplary public school curriculum, in ~2 generation cycles no one will know how to procreate and all the retiree communities will have expired

Consider me an expert in hot weather R1S driving (see the below 10 day forecast for Austin, which mirrors the previous 30 or so days). I haven't tinted the roof yet, but did pre-emptively choose the Ocean Coast interior to help mitigate the heat problem, and I think that's proven a wise decision.

To make it tolerable, I almost always pre-condition the cabin for about 10 minutes before getting in the car. The AC does buzz uncomfortably, but I've noted that it tends to calm down once it no longer has to work its ass off to cool things. I've also found it helps to make sure all three rows of vents are on even if no one is in the second/third row to make sure the entire space is evenly cooled, so it's not constantly mixing cool air with hot (we also do this in our Pacifica).

After about 5 minutes in the car, it feels cool enough. I wouldn't say it's amazing - the Pacifica still does a better job, but only when it's underway. If the Pacifica is stuck in stop and go traffic, when the engine isn't turning RPMs, the AC is actually worse than the Rivian, which obviously doesn't need engine help to run the AC.

If the compressor noise problem gets fixed, removing that irritant, I'd classify the experience as "fine" in Austin temps. Mixing the buzz in with uncomfortable heat can get frustrating, but again... tolerable.

If you haven't bought an R1S yet, and live somewhere as hot as Austin, please consider the Ocean Coast.

Sorry @strangelove, but that's nothin'. We would love those temps in Phx right now. The AC in my R1S just can't cool the cabin. However, my other cars manage to cool in about 5 mins.

Seeing this post made me text my tint guy :CWL:   . I had my windshield tinted to 70%, then service had to replace my windshield due to a bad seal so I need to re-tint. No heat issues for me in Florida sun. I park under a tree at work and in a garage at home. Yes, the car gets hot buy my AC keeps up. As others have said I use dog mode when I remember to, and precondition when I remember to. I'll be a buyer when we have a good aftermarket sunshield option for the glass roofs.

tint, sunshade, pre-cooling, lots of ways to keep the cabin cooler. if the AC wasn't cooling the cabin after 15min then something probably wrong with the AC and that could have been looked at by a SC. sounds like this guy just wanted to flip to make a quick buck. not sure why that even has to bee announced.

Sounds like the love of money won over the love of "driving, ride, and performance"
And the love of no-swamp-ass, in his defense.

I lived in Phoenix for three years before Austin. I do NOT miss that weather. Thoughts and prayers my friend ?

My R1T AC works fine in Phoenix. Maybe Rivian lost the recipe. I do wonder why all these car companies think glass roofs are such a great feature. I have no use for a glass roof, but am stuck with them on my last two new vehicles.

There are 2 sources of heat from my experience
Glass radiating heat inside
Dashboard radiating heat. This is not unique to Rivian. My other cars have this problem too.

Air temp is not bad at all. Both have easy fixes. Use shade on roof. For windshield, ceramic film or shade when parked.

Because of the "wow" factor in photos and bragging rites. Same for the motorized cabin air vents, no need for such complicated/expensive devices (that in the Rivian don't really work very well) that can be replaced by a 50 cent piece of plastic with a simple finger tab for directing the airflow.

I wonder how much testing they did with the R1S vs. the R1T when they were developing the vehicles? Sounds like they did a lot of test with the R1T and assumed that the results would be applicable to the R1S, which for most things that would be true. Could be that the AC compressor is sized for the R1T cabin and not able to handle the R1S cabin quite as well.
