If the charge port melted, it may have simply fallen off.
Nothing is attached to it.

I'm now actually thinking it might be the other cable, and not the one that was attached during charging.

Does anyone carry a fire extinguisher? This sort of makes me want to find my in-car one I haven't used for quite some time.

Post title "Electrify America burns a Rivian down" is accusatory. There's no way to know from this picture what caused it. I get it that we generally don't like EA, but this could have been a Rivian failure. Fair's fair.

I’d almost say more likely something went wrong in the truck from the damage unless we are trying to say that the cable caught on fire and ignited the Rivian.

Sure the charger could have sent too much power, we have seen reports of that but the truck should have a fail safe. I’d love to know what really happened here but I doubt we ever will.

In the mean time… “OMG EA is so terrible it burned a Rivian to the ground, lets all not charge there anymore it isn’t safe”

This will be even more complicated that previous cases because their was damage to both the vehicle and the charging station. So was the fire caused by the station or the Rivian... I guess we will see some finger pointing on this one... and we will never know the truth.
Hopefully the logs captured some of the event data and is recoverable. I would assume Rivian would be very interested in forensic data....?

The charge cables are fine, as shown in the other pictures. That white plastic handle would be totally melted and it's not even charred. So I kind of suspect it wasn't even plugged in, and gasoline was involved here.

Also note: lights are still working!

Woah, big claim to make based off of a single photo on the Internet!

I personally suspect aliens based on the burn pattern.
