I installed .02.03 yesterday. We noticed our internet was very slow the last 2 days. Called our provider and they said something is consuming all your bandwidth. I ran some speed tests and was getting around 1.0 MbPS. Starting turning off devices to find the culprit. Looks like it is the Rivian. I turn WiFi off in the truck and my speed goes to 25 MbPS. I have the phone app closed. I repeated multiple times and turning truck wifi on/off looks to be significantly impacting my bandwidth.

A soft reset of the software did not change anything

02.05? I thought “02.03” was still rolling out. No wifi issues for me on that.

I'd contact Rivian service.

yeah I can see it slowing your internet down when it’s downloading especially with a 25Mbps speed but it shouldn’t afterwards.

Can you clarify that it was using that much bandwidth while downloading the update or after? If it used that much downloading the update I wouldn't be surprised but if after that is potentially a problem.

Not to be mean but 25 mbps is not very fast, if your truck has a LTE signal it can likely get that on it's own. I wouldn't want to share with the truck either.

If you have only 25Mbps then I would just not connect the truck to your WiFi. That's not a lot to go around.

I have gigabit and (as expected) I never notice any slowdowns.

So you couldn’t watch South Park reruns on Comedy Central while your truck was connected? Not cool Rivian!

I was not actively doing an download or updating to the truck at the time. I had installed the latest Rivian software the day before and after that noticed the very slow internet service on the rest of our devices. That slow service persisted for 2 days, then I started investigating. I sat in the truck and repeatedly ran speed tests while turning the R1T wifi on and off. I consistently had 25 MbPS with it off and often, but not always, 1 or less with it on.

Granted 25 Mbps is not great but after this most recent software update it seemed to be especially slow.

The question is though, why is the truck sending/receiving so much data when there is no update in progress and no app running on my phone and just parked in the garage?

The answer is something that only Rivian can give you.

25Mbps is your d/l most likely. What is your upload?

Highly unlikely that your Rivian downloading would cause a significant degredation of your service even at 25 down. Uploading on the other hand is probably the culprit considering you said the update was complete.
If your router does not do great at load balancing and your upload is not good, then it may be sending or trying to send something which will effect your entire internet speed both up and down.
Did you look at actual amount of information your truck is sending through your router or just do speed tests?

Get a better router and do QoS. If you are not using the ISP supplied device you may already have QoS.

Also look at packet loss.

BTW, 25Mbs is like 5 times as much as streaming HD video, so it's frankly inconceivable that your Rivian is sending that much data.

My truck never reconnects to wifi after I leave and come back, so guess thats a good thing for once.
