That’s another problem: it wasn’t. This was a change so recent the guide didn’t even know about it when we originally asked about the process. Between asking about what’s needed and requesting the transfer the rules changed, and they are currently refusing to honor the old standard even on an exception basis. As long as the procedure is clear, consistently applied, and relatively quick I could care less.
That makes sense and will stop people trying to flip their place in line! All they are requiring is proof of ownership to establish the right to transfer.Rivian no longer allows you to transfer your own vehicle in their system to another individual. According to my guide, even if you are the current owner and explicitly ask them to transfer the ownership to a different Rivian account, this is inadequate. You must provide either a registration or title with the VIN and the new owner's name.
Apparently this was a recent change and an absurd one at that. It's a reasonable standard if the original owner is unknown or unwilling to manage the transfer, but this is the standard even if the "current" owner in Rivian's systems is requesting the transfer.
See the post above yours. Rivian had an opportunity to explain the rules and process prior to the transfer request. They changed the rules mid-transaction, did not communicate it, and now won’t honor the original arrangement. That makes sense and will stop people trying to flip their place in line! If you are requesting they grant full access to the vehicle to a different entity physically and digital and remove the vehicle from your account. Having confirmation of ownership "possession" established is the right way to do this. I for one want security in place to make sure I control access to my car and a process in place to secure that. If you have the car you have the title/registration what's the issue. For people with a reservation on a non delivered car who just want to flip their place in line removing this practice seem fair to me. They are not holding anyone hostage they are just establishing proof of ownership to trigger an event.See the post above yours. It also doesn’t explain why other companies such as Tesla are perfectly fine letting owners handle transfers themselves. Why do you want a company holding your property hostage?
Anymore fanboys want to justify this?
This has nothing to do with flipping or selling a reservation. You do know there are other perfectly legitimate reasons for transferring ownership of a vehicle right? If you are requesting they grant full access to the vehicle to a different entity physically and digital and remove the vehicle from your account. You said "You must provide either a registration or title with the VIN and the new owner's name." the original owner has the temp registration from delivery otherwise they could not drive it. If the title or full registration card are not yet available the temp one should suffice. This has nothing to do with flipping or selling a reservation. You do know there are other perfectly legitimate reasons for transferring ownership of a vehicle right?
Title and registration is not available yet because Rivian is slow as shit at providing that. A bill of sale was provided. They said it was inadequate.
The original owner, who clearly has established ownership, sent the guide a written request to transfer ownership to the new owner alongside a copy of the new owner’s ID. Why should a current, established owner be prevented from transferring their own vehicle?
Now the original owner has full access and control to a vehicle they no longer have in their possession nor have a legal claim to own. If the new owner is pulled over, has a wreck, etc, in the eyes of the law and insurance the new owner is the owner. The only one not honoring this is Rivian.
Bruh… your own quote contains the rub…You said "You must provide either a registration or title with the VIN and the new owner's name." the original owner has the temp registration from delivery otherwise they could not drive it. If the title or full registration card are not yet available the temp one should suffice.
This is not a flipping situation, and there are plenty of ways to verify identity of the original owner.I can understand the frustration, but it’s really only a flipper who is gonna be negatively affected by this. I prefer the company requiring proof of ownership from the buyer rather than someone just accepting “here’s my contact info, trust me, I’m the actual owner and not just some scammer impersonating the owner.” Rivian may be slow at getting DMV paperwork done, but so are most traditional dealerships. It’s a risk you take as a flipper.
I think I am missing something here. The vehicle is sold but not yet registered? Isn’t the simple fix to get it registered and show them the new temporary registration?Bruh… your own quote contains the rub…
“You must provide either a registration or title with the VIN and the new owner's name.”
The original owner's temp registration has his name, not the new owner's.
What are you saying that Rivian require you to sell the car and have the new owner first register it and only after THEY receive the title in their name can that new title be submitted to trigger a change in Rivian system sorry that can't be right.Bruh… your own quote contains the rub…

It can’t be registered until the title is available. It’s currently still under the factory temp tags.I think I am missing something here. The vehicle is sold but not yet registered? Isn’t the simple fix to get it registered and show them the new temporary registration?
Just not clearly understanding the actual issue here. I know I would be pretty upset if someone was able to transfer the vehicle account out of my name if it was still registered to me.
