Have taken this turn out of my driveway for 10 years with a Tundra, Tacoma, Xterra, WRX STI and am used to it. The Rivian, even with feathering the throttle just kept sliding. The tree was the only thing stopping it from going over the edge. Unfortunately now my hood has a nice dent in it. Had a hand winch to a tree and tensioned it, was able to back the truck up. It wouldn't let me go into offroad mode as the ground wasn't flat enough (odd since if you get stuck while in all purpose...you can't get into better modes for extraction.)

Rivian R1T R1S Guess I need some snow tires... my R1T hood now has a nice dent (on factory 20" A/T) 20221209_084856

I see black ice. Maybe that contributed? Snow pack should have built up enough resistance to help turn. Alas, being 3k heavier, maintaining direction will be more difficult. Physics wants you to maintain course.

No black ice(or other ice) at all. Likely seeing the driveway after I cleared snow and added salt.

That pretty much convinces me I’m going to be buying a set of Nokians to switch onto during winters in Connecticut. Three peak ATs are not the same as dedicated snows.

Is the snow performance really that bad? Why? Is it the factory tires?

Feels like the traction logic programming. Next time I'll kick it into neutral down the hill.
If the issue it won't let the wheels free spin so you slide? Otherwise forwards (while accelerating) traction is fine?

If they had a two-pedal driving mode, snow performance would be fine?

Found 20’s to be pretty weak on ice, slides way more than my KO2’s on my Ram. Installed Nokian LT3 after feeling like a newbie on the ice rink. Sorry about your hood, think we all cringe if anything happens to our trucks

Battle scar... not worth fixing? But I'm sure it sucks on your pristine ride.

I picked up my Model S on a Wednesday evening in early 2013. Friday morning I headed from Boston to NYC in a moderate snow storm. Five minutes later, at a traffic light, a car that couldn't stop slid slowly into my left rear door, denting it. So I know how you feel.
