20” Blizzak snow tires installed

Well with some snow in the forecast we decided to swap over to some 20” Blizzak LT snow tires. These are in the stock size, I think they are a few pounds heavier than the stock pirellis. Rivian would not install aftermarket tires so I had discount tire do it, I removed the panels to try to save the clips since I was nervous about them doing any extra work. They were excited to work on a rivian.

we average 2.1-2.2 on trips, with a 7k mile average of 2.3; I’ll update the thread once we’ve put some miles on these. First few miles home on a highway I didn’t noticed any additional noise or decrease in ride quality, but we’ll see if we notice after some more driving.

Did you change tires on your stock rims, or did you find a second set of rims?

Andy,

With that 126/123 Load Index Rating, it looks like you found a winner. I think that 123 translates to close to 700 pounds higher than the Pirelli's. I'm guessing for Winter use, you're not likely concerned with the Speed Index Rating limiting you to 106 MPH, right?

I'm looking forward to hearing more about your experience, especially when the snow and ice hit.

Subscribed. We’ve had great success with Blizzacks in heavy snow and ski rigs but they tend to wear fast on pavement given the softer compound. Interested to hear how they do for you in the 7k lb R1T @Andystroh.

62F up in Winter Park this afternoon. Should be colder and wetter about now.

We changed them on the stock rims. We'll see if we ever have an issue with it, but with how expensive the additional 20" wheel sets are it will take a lot of $88 tire swaps to hit the cost of another set of wheels. I also don't love changing them out myself anymore so I don't mind taking it to a shop to do it.

That's right; definitely a little overkill on the weight rating, and you're right, I'm a wimp with fast speeds and have never taken it above 100 on the summer tires, no chance of that this winter! I am excited to share too, we spend a lot of time in the snow and ice so I am hoping this works well.

Yeah, we have had them on some other vehicle and have had good experiences. It will be interesting to see how they wear. Excited to see some colder temps up there soon!

Truthfully I was disappointed to learn about the Nokians only being available in the 22s, that seems like a better tire option than the Blizzak. I am hoping by the time I wear through these they'll offer a similar tire in 20" or if there are some cheaper wheels out there I may consider 22" for the winter wheels. Excited to see how those do and hope you get your truck soon.

Maybe but these guys seem to be able to ship anywhere in the US. I plan to order these when I get my S (supposedly in next 10 weeks)

Fair point!

I wonder how much heavier the E load rated tires are compared to OE all terrains. Most tires in that size are E load range since the usual application is HD pickups.
