Finally got my R1T! pics attached!!!
Wanted to share the timeline and experience for everyone still patiently waiting. Also wanted to share some thoughts on the truck now that I’ve had it a few days.
TIMELINE:
-Jan 2022 - placed pre-order for R1T, explore trim, max pack, 21” wheels, LA silver, power tonnou. No other accessories or features.
-Did not cancel when the price went up. Was going to (couldn’t justify the cost), but decided to wait it out a few weeks. Mostly because I wanted to make the decision with a “cool head”. Was very happy when they honored the original price.
-When explore trim was eliminated, switched to adventure and large pack (couldn’t justify the price of adventure+max)
-when power tonnou was eliminated, switched to no tonnou.
-Somewhere in there, I changed to canyon red after pressure from my 5 year old daughter who’s thought process was “it’s only fair because her brother got to pick blue for mommy’s model y.” She picked red because it was the closest color to pink.
-Added PPF when it became available
-I made no changes after the delivery estimate roll out
-First delivery estimate in Oct was “july - sept of 2023”
-In the Jan update, it changed to processing estimate
-Guide assigned 1/3/23
-8 steps opened on 2/8/23
-Took delivery at service center on 3/2/23
THOUGHTS:
Some Thoughts on the process and how awesome the truck is:
my guide had no idea my delivery estimate was July-Sept
Delivery was a pleasant experience, just the admin paperwork and handing over the checks. So much better than a car dealership. They didn’t really inspect my trade-in either. They just confirmed the miles and VIN. I told them about the few minor problems the jeep had, but they didn’t care.
Process was nearly identical to when my wife got her model y. Rivian experience was better though. The Rivian employee gave us the tour of the truck, then gave us time to ask our specific questions aside from the Rivian script which was nice compared to Tesla. The Model Y was our first EV and the Tesla employee basically pointed out our new Y and said good luck. It being our first EV, we were a little lost.
I did as thorough of an inspection as I could during delivery. One thing “bad” Only that the spare tire compartment wouldn’t close on both side. We tried the “one side at a time” trick, but no luck. So he showed me how to submit a service request.
All the other common delivery issues were absent. No panel gaps, paint streaks, etc. Still haven’t found any problems.
Service called me two hours later to schedule date/time to fix the spare tire latch. Availability was two weeks out. Ended up going 4 weeks out (due to my schedule).
The quality is incredible. When we got the Tesla, we were impressed with its quality compared to my jeep and my wife’s Prius (that thing was poorly put together and felt like it was falling apart from day 1). Compared to the Rivian, the Telsa almost feels like a flimsy toy (like our Prius did to the Tesla).
I love the Canyon Red color! It changes depending on the lighting. Just like how the landscape of a real canyon changes color with the lighting as the sun moves. I hope Rivian intended to do that.
I really like the second screen behind the steering wheel. It has the car’s interpretation of the road like teslas but it’s easier to see. I don’t have to move my head and take eyes off the road as much. I also love how it shows the map on this screen as well. One of my biggest gripes with the Telsa is that all of the instrument gauges are on that screen in the middle of the dash.
my kids (7 and 5) love playing in the gear tunnel. They think it’s the best thing ever. At least 10 times a day, they ask me to open it just so they can crawl in and out of it.
Attached are some pics of what my daughter has dubbed “the red rocket” (due to its acceleration power) at a nature preservation right behind my house.
