R1T: why no glove compartment?
This would be the perfect place to have secured storage within the vehicle.

R1S: does the SUV have a glove compartment?

I hope so! In our vehicles, use of the center armrest is usually the drivers prerogative, and the passenger gets the glove department for their stored items.

No for both. But they do have small compartments under the front seats in both.

From the B-pillar forward the R1T and R1S are identical.

What vehicles are you driving that the glove compartment is usable for much after the manual is in there?
No way that arrangement would work with my wife, she can barely fit her wallet in our Navigators glove box and she carries around a lot more than that lol.

If you look at the tear downs there is a bunch of stuff right there, that is my guess as to why. If you watch the long way up there was a bunch of stuff actually under the hood that got moved for production.

I don't get it. What does everyone use a glovebox for? I store the manual, insurance, and registration. All fit under the seat
My glove compartment is:70% owners manual, 2% leatherman, 1% registration/insurance docs, 30% pens that probably don’t work, 60% napkins from fast food/takeout, 40% gas receipts from our last cross country trip.

R1 doesn’t have a big paper owners manual, so I’m expecting small stuff to go under the seats and everything else in the centre console, which seems to be similar in volume to the cubby box in my defender.

Well for one, when you go to grab your insurance and registration when you get pulled over. Police expect you to go to the glove box. Not under your seat. If you want to get a gun pulled on you, go reach for something unexpected in a place the officer can't see without announcing it during a traffic stop.

This is the first time I've actually have given any thought on this. My initial reaction was to say we need a glovebox. Then thinking about it more, I only keep vehicle registration, insurance card and small tissue packet.

So I guess it's not really important to have. The registration and insurance can be stored in the center console, door side pocket or seat pocket. Tissue packet can go anywhere reachable.

So, unless I start using driving gloves, I don't need a glove box!

Yes I would say after looking at a lot of online videos and reviews, the comparative lack of storage vs the Lightning is notable.

As some have said, in my current F150, I really rarely go into the glove box. It holds insurance, tire warranties and a tire gauge, trailer insurance, a couple other knick knacks.

It's not a big deal for me. Cup-holders yes, glovebox no.

Really good point - simple answer - don't get pulled over! ha!

I actually thought it was weird at first, but I ultimately don't miss it.

There’s a band in the center console for registration
