I will U-bolt my NY plates to my toe-hook before I drill holes in my bumper.
If that doesn't work out then I guess it will reside in the glove compartment... Hmm, this is quickly becoming a tough nut to crack.

wtf, seriously. ive seen multiple test vehicles with the front license plate taped. you'd think they would at least test it with some bracket and/or screws. i wonder how much putting a plate there will impact aerodynamics and range.

Talked about this with my 1st mile guy. He said that Rivian would provide a bracket/mount that would require drilling the front bumper. I asked him about alternatives like https://customlicenseplates.us/ . He indicated that he uses one on his Tesla and knows a number of people who do and that no one, to his knowledge, has had a problem with that solution in Washington State.
the problem though is where are you going to stick the sticker? there's no flat surface on the front area.

You asked, “Where does the front license plate get mounted?”
Is, “On my garage wall.” an option?
Glove box. Oh, wait there isn't one ! Back of passenger is a good place for it.

This is reason #2 I registered in my home state instead of Washington, front plates are the worst.

"Thank God you're here, constable, somebody stole my front plate!"
Legit excuse in Seattle.

?

at least the bracket is only two screws.

Although if I have to mount it it will be with trim tape probably.

I don't know who shared this, but I almost ordered them:

https://skenebrackets.com/
I posted the link to Skene at some point. I have used them on a Chevy SS Sedan and a Volvo S90 and was able to find a surface at the bottom of the front facia to mount to so the holes could never be seen. With the Rivian I see no obvious mounting points that would be better than the stock bracket. I will either shed some tears and just put the stock bracket on with screws, or use some heavy-duty outdoor 3M mounting tape and hope it works out.
