Hey, everyone this is my first post here. I'm only ten days away from pulling the trigger on a 2026 R1T max pack - essentially my retirement gift to myself. I'm tearing my hair out on the tire/wheel combo. I live in an area with marginal roads, frequent winter flooding, and clay/sand terrain. I keep a 4x4 truck around mostly for home projects/light construction and camping/road trips, but also because we get trapped here once in a while(becoming more frequent, though) and when we are, the only way in or out is a steep dirt forestry road or helicopter. I've used the road with my Tacoma that runs BFG AT KO2's, but I'm wondering if I could get away with the 22" wheel/tire options on the R1T to keep that range as high as possible. I don't rock crawl or seek out the worst possible routes for fun, as that is what have to do at work with tractors. But, would the 22's be able to haul this truck and maybe a small Jeep trailer(small 500lb) up a steep, ungraded, bumpy, incline when needed? My wife and I aren't getting any younger and the possibility of of a medical emergency when we're cut off weighs on me, but also the 99.5% of the time AT tires are not needed and are a range vampire seems a waste of range and electricity. Forgot to mention, we'll be using it to travel a bit when my wife retires this summer. Thanks in advance.
Just wanted to thank you all for the responses. After taking them all into account, I think I'm going with the 20" A/T setup because, as some of you've stated, I can change tires to improve range later and I worry about potholes as well as curb rash with the 22" setup. Again, thank you so much for the responses, you've all really helped me here.
