My thought is I don't even buy an aftermarket one since i'll be mostly paved road driving. I don't want to limit myself though if I find that I take it more off road than I think I will.
It fits a full size wheel/tire combo, so putting an aftermarket one in shouldn't be a problem -- there's room. The tools might be a little more difficult, as the Rivian kit is designed to fit within the wheel AND the R1T is heavy+tall, so you need an appropriate jack. Maybe Rivian will sell you the tools after the fact? If not, you could put a full size jack in the gear tunnel; not as elegant as the factory option, but doable.

thanks! I'm probably just thinking about it too much. Might just suck it up and get the spare from them.

IMO the spare tire makes a lot of sense. It does add weight and take up storage space, but I feel like if you need it, its good to have the whole setup (including tools) from Rivian to replace a tire.

Agree with @CommodoreAmiga and @s12dxer, better to have it and not need it than the alternate. Also a benefit of the factory spare is you can do a 5 tire rotation and extend your next tire purchase by 25%.

Question about charging.

Read a couple of places now that talks about stopping charging before unplugging. With the Tesla it is as simple a clicking on the button on the handle either through supercharger, the portable charger, or using an adapter on the J1772 handle.

Is it any different on the Rivian? Just seems odd that they seem to be emphasizing the need to stop charging first.

I usually wait until the charge is complete (70%) but then just remove the plug. No issues, no warnings or prompts.

The release button on the J1772 handle should signal to the EVSE to stop the flow of current before you've had a chance to break continuity of the contacts. The whole connector, including the depth of the various pins, was carefully designed to prevent high-current arcing.

I've never done this, will it affect drive quality, steering, etc?

Echoing others, no problem. Pulled mine at 68% while charging to 70% this morning and no issues.

Me neither Haha, I just know it's a thing. I'm assuming as long as the wear isn't excessively different between the tires it shouldn't be noticeable or cause problems. Someone who has experience can probably weigh in.

Did 5-wheel rotations on my wife's old JK. No issues with ride quality, and actually using that 5th tire was way better than letting it rot.

Not if you regularly rotate your tires and follow a consistent pattern.

I’ve seen that the cargo crossbars fit in the front trunk…but do they fit under the false floor? ?
