Has a thread been created to track VIN assignments/highest VIN seen in the wild? I've searched a few times and haven't found anything (if it exists and I just suck at searching, my apologies). It might help to start to get some notional sense of production ramp (although I know VINs aren't necessarily built in exact order).

A couple of days ago I came across a Launch Edition R1T with a VIN ending in 0393.

Me thinks he might work for Rivian?

I don't know about dot.report, but generally, what you need to do is program repeated queries of https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls with VIN combinations that could be possible with the VIN format registered by the manufacturer. The manufacture registers blocks of VINs with NHTSA before they go into the manufacturing queue. This is necessary to track potential recalls for a vehicle. (Edit: I'm pretty sure) This is how http://model3vins.com tracked the production ramp of the Tesla Model 3 for the first couple years of production. They even produced a Twitter feed at https://twitter.com/model3vins to announce when they saw new blocks of VINs getting registered. Initially, Tesla was registering small blocks of 10 VINs at a time, but eventually registered blocks of thousands of VINs at a time.

Currently, the NHTSA web site is broken. I got an error looking up a supposedly valid Rivian VIN (from a picture of the label in a door jam) as well as my Model 3 VIN.

Someone that has a Twitter account could maybe try contacting these folks on Twitter @Model3VINs to see if they would like to duplicate the site for the ramp of the R1T and R1S. Much easier for them to replicate existing code than for someone to develop the same from scratch...

That's exactly what I was thinking of--thanks @DeafPug. I'll see if I can get in touch with them...for the time being, I did just purchase rivianvins.com.

I know next to nothing about VINs and how they’re assigned during production, so forgive some dumb questions here:

From the looks of things, using the VIN decoder in this thread, Rivian has mostly produced Launch Edition R1Ts but not exclusively, as there are some with middle sequences of AAA instead of AAL. Does having a VIN mean those vehicles are production and going to customers?

Also, what’s the deal with the sequencing? There’s only a handful of Adventure trim, but I see one with a high serial number anyway (099991)

Again, I freely admit I know nothing :)
